What is OJ Simpson's deal?

Asked by Dutchess_III (47126points) May 13th, 2013

He was accused of murdering Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman in 1995 (and I, personally, think he was guilty) and then was arrested and ”...charged with numerous felonies, including armed robbery and kidnapping in 2007.” He was sentenced to 33 years. Source

The man had it ALL at one point. What is wrong with him?

That’s easy, narcissism, plain and simple.

I think he did it, too!

It’s the “I’m a celebrity so I shouldn’t have any penalties” mind-set. Most think they’re above the law and from what I’ve seen, they’re right. It’s one of my pet peeves actually.

@KNOWITALL when I first heard it I thought there was just NO way. He was such a NICE guy…..

I can’t know, of course, but I’m reminded of recent research into the brain structure of sociopaths. The anomaly that appears with fair regularity is a smaller than normal amygdala (the organ responsible for fear) combined with low activity in the orbitofrontal cortex. The end result is someone who is essentially fearless. They are always cool and collected, and that air of self-assurance convinces others that they’re trustworthy, since we expect someone who is up to no good to show subtle signs of stress. Psychopaths are often very likeable and interesting.

Someone who is born with this brain configuration isn’t fated to be a psychopath. They could just as easily be a great warrior or football player. Put them in the wrong circumstances, though, and things can go very badly.

I don’t know, or care much either.

My take is that law enforcement thought he was guilty as hell too and found the nationally televised Ito decision embarrassing. He was the really big one that got away. He insisted on a high profile lifestyle afterwards, flaunting the decision and his freedom in the national press, and Law Enforcement couldn’t stand it. I think they actually took it personally. The charges he went to prison for were their way of getting him.

There was a busness meeting in a hotel room in Vegas and an argument broke out over the proprietary rights to Simpson football paraphenalia. Simpson pulled a gun in a fit of anger and people were kept in the room against their will for a short period until he was talked down. Simpson was later charged with everything under the sun, no plea deals. I think he was guilty of the double murder and should have gotten the needle, but this Vegas thing was pure, raw vengeance. Don’t fuck with the man.

Simpson’s deal is that he’s a murderer, kidnapper and an armed robber who is now plying the victim. Such a brutal dangerous criminal who should never be freed.

Did the glove fit him though? I was too young to follow. (I was old enough to understand Michael Jordan was the man!)

Ok but seriously yes I was thinking about this too. Let’s dig into the psychology about his rise to power in the first place. He had to have been an extremely confident young man growing up. To be a Running Back even in the backyard you have to be pretty damn bold. Eventually being in the NFL he must’ve been infatuated with stardom. So then he gets with someone from a highger social class, gets talked back to (probably was not used to this at all so he snaps)

So yeah, I’d have to go with Kardamons reasoning.

I’m with @ucme here.

@Mama_Cakes @ucme I think the moral of the story here is. Money is power and paying everyone off gets you free in society, so we should pay attention and hold our neighbors accountable for their goddamn actions!

He ran out of juice, but sadly, just kept on squeezing.

@pleiades It was a leather glove that had been blood soaked in the commission of the murder. Leather shrinks when soaked and then dried. Of course it didn’t fit him. It should not have been expected to fit.

Someone lock that fucker up already.

Saw a pic of him in today’s papers, wow, has he piled on the timber…O.J…Obese Jabba :D

@Mama_Cakes Your wish has been granted. He’s doing 9 to 33 at Lovelock Corectional Center, Pershing County, Nevada. If he’s lucky, they’ll let him make garments and matresses to pass the time. It’s not the needle many believe he deserves, but it’s a major tradedown in lifestyle.
