I’ve been to a lot of small theater in the last year or so. I like seeing local musicians, I have been going to house concerts in San Francisco with some real talented singers. But I am not all that big a fan of amateur productions. That gets tiresome.
We are involved in the local arts scene, supporting theatre productions, gallery exhibitions buying from local craft markets and if I had the $$ I’d be acquiring some works as well.
We are in the local theatre co. I do make up and wardrobe my girls act and sing it’s loads of fun.
My walls are decorated with artwork from the local community. Photographs, paintings, sculpture. At least 80% of the artwork I own is created by people that I actually know on a first name basis.
I haven’t hooked into the local art groups since we moved here, busy with other things. But everywhere else I have lived I have always been active and supportive. I also exhibit my art and as @RealEyesRealizeRealLies most of the art on my walls is by people I have worked with and admired over my lifetime.
As a rule, no. Or maybe sometimes.
I have a fairly high standard for the arts/crafts/pottery/glasswork that meets my taste. Most of the arts community where I live makes crap. They make Christmas wreaths whereas I am looking for creativity and artisanry.
If I lived outside of the suburbs, it might be a different story. But here in the Atlanta burbs, you don’t get art. You get kitsch.
Not any more. I did my stint and have a collection of mugs, pottery, vases , hand-painted scarves, bird houses, and the like.
I’ve been very involved with local theater, on stage, backstage and in the front office. I sing with a local chorale. I took classes in dance for 10 years. I’ve also been on the board of a local art museum. So, yes.
I am lucky enough to live in a place with a very lively homegrown music scene. You can find live music almost every night of the week. I attend local shows as often as I can, and I like to buy albums or merchandise from the bands.
There’s some good visual arts around here as well, but I’m not really in the income-bracket where I am concerned about collecting art.
