Would someone who has me as a friend on fb do me a favor?
Would you please post something that points out that “could of” or “would of” or “should of” makes no sense. Point out that they’re misinterpreting “could’ve,” “would’ve” and “should’ve” which are contractions of “could have,” “would have” or “should have.” Then I can share it so that my “friends” don’t feel they’re being targeted by me.

going to stay up long enough to see what Gail has to say! Then I’m going to bed.
Go to any Google site on English grammar. But perhaps FB is not the right area to work on making a case for the Queen’s English.
My technique, marginally successful at best, is to write my FB stuff, such as it is, in clear prose, often using the correct version of the error. I do it here also; I don’t think anyone cares or even notices.
Remember how strident forceful the discussion on the ellipsis got, including some of your retorts? We all tend to protect our own ox.
What would be the point of googling it?
You have an anonymous expert to quote.
I don’t need an anonymous expert. It can be explained it 2 seconds, and it’s obvious. You missed the point. If I post it, no matter who I have to quote, the friends I have who misuse the words will feel targeted.
@Dutchess_III: You’re correct. I did miss the point. Sorry. I still have trouble navigating parts of FB. But I saw what Auggie did.
Why not just post it yourself? If one of your friends has done this recently and you just happen to share this grammar lesson, you’re “targeting” them either way and they very well might notice that. Not taking the credit for it is just a cop out.
They’ll notice! Anyway, thanks Auggie.
Got a hit! One of the people I wanted to reach commented on the post I shared. She said, “That’s why I use cooda’ , wooda & schooda,!!!!” I just said, “Lol!” but…she actually DOES use “could of”. I SEEN IT WIT MY OWN EYES!
^^^ John. 8.7. We ourselves have to be scrupulous when we get into this issue, no? Or don’t we?
