Steam coming from cooktop?
We have a flat-top GE stove that’s about 8 months old. We have a warranty, but I wanted to see if this is normal before sitting on the phone with GE for an hour.
I’ve noticed that, when the stove is on a high temperature, steam can be seen coming from the back of the stovetop. It’s only out of the back right of the stove. It stops if the stove is opened, but starts again a few minutes later.
Any idea why it might be doing this?

My stove/oven vents out the back left top of the unit. It is not a GE product, but your vent may be where you are seeing the steam. I’d check the owners manual and if that is where the vent is I would not worry about it too much.
Sounds like the vent for the oven, mine puts out heat and steam sometimes high amounts.
Do you have the owners manual?
RTFM~~ The manual should show where the vent is located.
I don’t understand how a stove can be open? Does that mean when the stove is on?
@JLeslie I think the OP is saying that when you open the oven the heat escapes out the door not out of the vent.
Yes, I meant the oven. I’ll check the manual tonight.
Oh, the oven. It’s probably normal. It is venting heat for some reason, might be to protect some sort of electrical panel, and when the door is open so mich heat is escaping out the fron that it doesn’t kick on the system to vent from another part of the oven.
By the way GE usually answers fairly quickly. They have a big service, customer service thing/racket, basically because a lot of their products suck. Hate to say. I have had GE in many houses and have been very unhappy with many of their appliances. However, their ovens have always been adequate and not given me any trouble. Their smooth electric stove top I was extremely unhappy with, but maybe it is improved now. The flat cooktop heated up very very slowly and never very hot. Took forever to boil water. My husband loves their Advantium oven if you happened to get one of those with your kitchen.
