I bought a pack of gum at a convenience store, it looked as if it would have 5 sticks inside but instead had 10 pieces that looked like chicklets. It is a Wrigley product. Anyhow it was $1.15 which seems excessive.. I have been googling my fingers off but can’t find the price in USA, does anybody know and do they still have plain old Beechnut with the 5 sticks?

I pay about $1.70 for Orbit gum, which has 10ish pieces. The gum in the pop-out packs is generally gross and you have to chew two pieces at a time. Not worth the money. Try Orbit, Stride, or 5 gum instead. And no, Beech-Nut gum has been discontinued for awhile. Wriggly’s still sells the 5-stick packs for less than $1. They taste great…for about 10 seconds, when they completely lose their flavor.
Cheap gum, like cheap bank checks, is ancient history. Five sticks got you five cents when I was a kid, assuming you could get five cents. I rarely buy gum anymore for the following reasons:
1) It’s ridiciously overpriced
2) The packaging is far too complicated
3) Too many weird flavors, and all of them taste chemically
4) Better things to buy for the same amount of money
$1.15 is a normal price for the type of gum you bought. If you had bought a regular pack of 5 stick gum, it would have cost you 35 cents.
We’re pretty crazy for gum at my office.
18-stick packs of Trident come in a 3-pack for $2.99, as does Trident White 3-packs of 18 chiclets. Stride, 5, and Orbit are all comparable. Orbit goes on sale most often; I can usually get it for 2 for $5 in the three-packs.
Wow, here I was living back in 1998 USA when I bought a pack of Beechnut for I think 15 cents! So your prices are as outrageous as ours. Well I feel a little bit better now. How about candy bars, they are anywhere from 2.50 upwards here, how much there? I don’t see how people can afford to over indulge on these treats anymore!
I chew gum constantly and go through packs like crazy. While the price you paid is pretty much the same that we would pay here, we save money by buying it in bulk at Sam’s Club. You get 12 packs with 14 pieces in each for about $9, it’s a pretty good deal! But of course, like with everything, it’s not nearly as cheap these days as it was years ago.
Yep here I thought I was getting robbed, but actually gum is one thing that is priced about the same here as there. Thanks and lurve to y’all for your input!
