Is $1000 for a brand new Kirby Sentria II vacuum/carpet cleaner a good price?

I remember someone trying to sell us one of those years ago. I think they were around AU$1000 then. I wouldn’t pay it. No matter how clean my carpets were that seemed like a rip-off. Perhaps someone has bought one of these things and can testify to their amazing efficiency. I just wasn’t convinced. The whole sales pitch seemed dodgy to me.
Only if it comes with someone to clean your house for three months.
I have a 6 year old Miele, cost me $350 and I love it. Easy to maneuver, lightweight, and really sucks. Go for a Miele.
We have a Kirby and paid $1400 for it. It was an impulse buy, but I love it. It does just about everything but make you dinner and you can’t beat that lifetime warranty. The self-propelling feature is also quite nice. And it’s so pretty! :)
Not in this life time would I ever pay that much for a vacuum cleaner. Ever. So, no, it is not a good price.
Kirby makes good vacuums, really good ones, but the company itself stinks. I know because I bought one from them.
If you do choose to buy this, SAVE the receipt! I mean put it with your birth certificate!
If you want to get it serviced at the factory, they will demand you tell them the exact date your vacuum was purchased, or forget it. It’s all in the fine print.
Check out ebay for a better price. Here is one for $850 and free shipping. Current bid is $123.00.
Oh, and if you purchase a used Kirby, you can’t ever get it serviced at the factory, because you didn’t buy it from Kirby, and you can’t give them the date it was purchased.
I don’t think that it is a very good price. Technically speaking, it may be a fair price based on the labor and materials that went into the product. I think, however, that there are several cheaper vacuums that do the job almost as well, and that the slight increase in cleanliness is not worth the extra cost.
I almost bought one.
A rep came to my house and gave us a demo. Usually skeptical me was actually impressed. I dragged the lady all over my house asking her to vacuum couches, my mattress, curtains. It really did an amazing job from what I could see.
Then I remembered my house was all hardwood with no carpets at all.
Certainly not worth $1200 just to suck some furniture now and again.
Yes, that is an average price I see online.
Holy crap… I had no idea they were that much! I can’t even imagine having enough money to buy a Dyson, let alone a Kirby.
@Cupcake That’s good, because Dyson is inferior to Kirby. Kirby vacuums may not be worth their price tag, but Dyson vacuums certainly aren’t. Life expectancy alone makes the Kirby win by a landslide.
@livelaughlove21 It’s good I don’t have $400 to buy a vacuum cleaner? Gee… thanks.
@Cupcake Oops, I read that as, “I can’t even imagine paying that much for a Dyson,” hence my answer. My bad. Well, $400 is too much for a Dyson, anyways. Save your money.
You guys..I really like my Kirby! It’s a floor cleanin’ machine.
Down side…you can’t sling it around like you can the cheap ones.
You can’t see all the crap you’re vacuuming up. I always got some satisfaction about being able to look in the cannister and go “Wow. Look what I just did.”
It’s heavy….but it has a self-propelled feature.
It scares the living crap out of the dogs! But the Kirby sucks it right up.
But after I vacuum a floor, it looks like I just steam cleaned it.
I also don’t have to worry about running over pennies and stuff.
I like it.
HA! I couldn’t find this Q because the search is broken, but I figured if I asked a Q about vacuum cleaners it would show up. So I did, and it did.
I wanted to give an update here, but since I couldn’t find it, I used a whole new question.
But dang…most everyone on this thread isn’t here any more. :(
