Where is the closest place for you to buy an Orange Vs. findng fast food?
Mine is a one hour walk at a mega-department store called Sobeys. For the fast food it is 5 minutes walk to get to KFC and Taco Bell.

I have fast food and a grocery store within ten minutes of home and work (different cities.)
I can drive 3 miles and get both if I want to.
Driving: 3 minutes for KFC… 4 minutes for an orange.
The nearest fast food place is in the parking lot of the grocery store so the closest place is the same distance. It’s .7 miles away.
The closest supermarket and the closest fast food restaurant are in the same plaza for me.
There is no walking. No sidewalks, the roads are dangerous, and it’s 90 degrees outside.
Fast food and supermarket are equidistant. Four miles either way.
I can get oranges, lemons or limes in my backyard. I can drive a golf cart ten minutes to a fast food restaurant, grocery store or a weekend farmer’s market.
Fast food available at the gas station which is across the street from the local Food Coop.
Nothing within walking distance, but once I drive the 5 miles to town, town is ½ mile of main street and a mini-mall a few blocks away.
Just a few blocks away, maybe 15 or so. Dillions, Walmart, McDonalds and Subway are all within a few hundred feet or yards of each other. For Wendys and Sonic and Taco Bell I’d have to go across the street (main street.) You can stand in one spot and see them all. Small town.
It’s about the same for me. There are two little food shops within in walking distance and a number of large supermarkets within (slightly further) walking distance. I also have all kinds of takeaways within walking distance from pizza, Chinese, Indian and fish and chips.
From where I am right not, an orange is about 5 km away, fast food is about 40 km.
I have an orchard in my backyard so I can just walk out there to get me various fruits. The tangerines are delightful!
I have an orange tree in my yard, so during the season, I can just walk outside. There is a small neighborhood market/liquor store one block away, and the nearest fast food is also one block away.
The closest place for food is the gas station about 2 miles up the road. They sell things like hot pizzas and burritos, as well as oranges, apples, and bananas. But I’m lucky that I do not rely on this place for either hot food or fruit.
It’s a ten minute walk to get an orange. The fast food is a little further across a busy road but is only 15 minutes.
I have a grocery store closer then a fast food joint.
In collage I once walked 5 miles (10 altogether) to get Taco Tico because I wanted it THAT bad and I had no car! I imagine I worked that meal off by the time I got back home.
COLLEGE!!!!!! Not collage!!!!! COLLEGE!!!!!
Grocery store and fast food place are in the same plaza. Less than ½ a mile from my house.
The nearest supermarket is a 3 minute walk away, while the nearest fast food place is a half our walk away.
Nearest grocer is two long blocks, 7 minutes by foot. Fast food (Taco Bell) is 5 blocks, about 12 minutes on foot.
I can walk 3 blocks one direction to get an orange and 3 blocks the opposite way to get fast food 24 hours a day. I’ve never been in the fast food place.
Closest grocery is 10 min walk, noodle bar in same plaza. Can get veggies and tofu stir fried with lemongrass and chili for 8.50. I can buy ingredients in grocery for less but it doesn’t taste as nice!
About 15 steps to my back neighbor’s orange tree. I always throw a quarter over the fence (not my idea…..Mrs. Apple is a Libra).
McDonald’s, Burger King, Chick-Fil-A, et al require motorized transportation
.
Walking it would take about 20 minutes, driving it would take about 3 to 5 minutes. The oranges and the fast food place can both be found in the same parking lot, where there is a grocery store and 3 fast food places, in one direction, and a grocery store and 4 fast food places in another parking lot in the other direction.
We have a lime tree and an avocado tree in our back yard. Our neighbor just brought over some peaches and lemons from his trees.
When I do shop at the grocery stores, I buy lots of things that I can make ahead and then freeze (like chili and spaghetti sauce and soup) and I always have beans, rice, dried grains and canned vegetables, and frozen vegetables, and we cut up larger blocks of cheese and freeze those, and we always keep bread and tortillas and buns in the freezer. There is never a need for fast food.
Oranges 10 minute walk. Fast food 30 minute walk. I lucked out here.
Safeway is a five minute walk. As long as we define fast food as things that are franchises I think the closest place is a Dairy Queen about 8 blocks away. And other then that we are talking a few miles to get fast food. There are a bunch of places on 29th and I live on 13th.
I’m jealous of everyone who can pick an orange in their backyard. I used to be able to pick a jakfruit or mango in my garden :-{
@bookish1 Anyone can grow an orange tree in a container in your apartment or patio.
Ohhh I so miss buying mangoes for a couple of dollars for a whole tray and picking coconuts and bananas in the back yard!!!
Wen we moved here there was a supermarket in the same plaza as a Sushi Buffet and a Dunkin Donuts and a liquor store about a half-mile away. The supermarket closed within a month of us moving in (we stocked-up with some good sales, though) and the sushi buffet is now closed.
To get to the closest supermarket now (about 3 miles away), I drive past the Dunkin Donuts, a KFC/Pizza Hut, a diner, a Panera, a pizzeria, a Smashburger, a Chili’s, a Chipotle, a Five Guys, a Haagen Dazs, a Jamba Juice, a Starbucks, and a McDonalds.
