Good facial for mild acne?

Asked by LeavesNoTrace (5677points) June 5th, 2013

I`m 24 and was lucky enough to have clear blemish-free skin as a teen. Thank goodness since everyohne knows that teenagers are little sociopaths…

Anyway, I´ve recently been plagued by a mild case of acne that´s been annoying me. I just moved from NYC to Ecuador so maybe the climate has been affecting me. I´ll admit that I´ve never been too into skin care, mostly because I felt like I never had to be. Haha, wrong I was.

Mostly I have teeny tiny little pimples near my hairline, and sometimes in the ¨T-zone¨area. I use a natural tea tree oil face wash but it kind of dries out my skin so I use pure aloe vera gel to try to calm it down a bit.

Today I was thinking, I´ve never had a professional facial and maybe it´s time. Can anyone recommend a good moisturizing facial that might help get rid of my few zits? Salon treatments or home-made are both fine.

How about Dermalogica Prescriptive facial. They are tailored to your skins problems.

One good first step is exfoliation. You can get a lot of dead cells sloughed off and unclog pores too. You can achieve this really easily with cheap exfoliating wipes (Simple makes a decent one), a Clarisonic skin brush (a great investment no matter what your skin type) or microdermabrasion.

After that, I think you can save a lot of money on acne treatment facials by going the ProActiv route. It’s an inexpensive multi-step system, can be really effective and they continue to evolve it. They also have a sensitive skin line.

Good luck! Acne can be stubborn and frustrating!

Are you using any new products? Like sunscreen on your face? I gave some advice to someone here about a facial regimen…..I will see if I can find it and refer it. (I am a cosmetics formulator and specialise in allergies and problem skin)

@Headhurts Thanks! Found out they have a location in Chelsea NYC. I´ll definitely check it out next time I´m in the city.

It’s possible your skin and scalp are adjusting to a very different climate, different water, different stuff blowing around in the air too.

If your pores are blocked, that makes blemishes. Physically exfoliate your skin with a mild scrub (adding some baking soda to a cleanser will work, or you may want to try something like St. Ives apricot scrub), use a mild astringent (witch hazel is gentle), moisturize all over but only lightly around that area as most moisturizers contain oil which blocks pores, and please please please use a sunscreen. Don’t expect a miracle overnight, this is a pretty conservative basic skincare regimen. You may need to tweak it. If it persists, see a doctor.

You could always go there and ask for Face Mapping, it should be free, and they will advise you of the facial you need, but it sounds like you need a Prescriptive facial.

A piece of cheesecloth wrapped around some oatmeal and tied up makes a gentle but effective scrub for cleaning the face, it can also be hung over the hot tap when running a bath.

I have long thought honey is wonderfully healing for the skin, it makes a great face mask, just put it on 15 minutes or so prior to jumping in the shower or bath and rinse off.

I’ve also found a slice of cucumber rubbed over the face very calming, it does not need to be rinsed off and leaves no discernible residue.
