Can you give me a trendy girl's name that begins with the letter K?

Asked by keobooks (14327points) June 5th, 2013

A family member is expecting baby #5. All the other 4 kinds have kicky trendy names and they all start with K. I want to take bets on what the new baby will be named.

The first four:

Keely
Kylie
Kimber
Keegan

So, any guesses as to what baby girl #5 will be? I doubt they will buck the trend and go with a non-K name. I have Kiki so far, but that might be a little too dated.

Khloe (or any other Kardashian name). ~

Kaden
Kail
Kacia
and my fave, Kachina (Native American Indian)

jordym84's avatar

@KNOWITALL The name Kachina always makes me cringe because it’s one letter shy from a bad word in my native language. lol

keobooks's avatar

Wooo.. I think Kaden, but spelled Kayden or even Kaydyn is a strong Kontender! I’m going to have to take Kiki off the betting table.

Oh… we are great at trendy names with K here in ‘Viking land’.... Lets see…. Katja, Kai, Kaitlin, Kari, Karine, all the Kate derivatives…. Katrina, Kate, Katelyn… etc.

Our ‘J’ is pronounced like a ‘Y’ or ‘J’ in English. so ‘Katja’ isn’t Kat.ga, but Kat’ yah. I have two nieces in the US that I don’t really understand their names. One is called ‘Mina’ but instead of what I would say… ‘Meena’... they pronounce it with a short i so that ‘i’ sounds like the ‘i’ in Minnow. Another niece is called Makayla. This is meant to be the germanic feminine form of Michael, but they should have spelled it with a less ‘made up’ way…Mikayla. Not sure why they did what they did. The boys of those families have very very old school, old testament names, but the girls get names that are not from that source.

dxs's avatar

@glacial For some reason, I like traditional names better. I’m not a fan of the new 21st century names coming out.

I was just about to mockingly post Kheight-lynne, a name I made up.

cazzie's avatar

Actually… I sort of like ‘Karson’ or ‘Kendra’ Kendra is Celtic and means knowledge/understanding…. I think that is pretty cool. Kendra is also easy to spell and understand.
Karson means Love,Boldness,Hope which is also very cool.

DominicX's avatar

@dxs That list is why I love English, though. Lists like that would be impossible in a language like Italian where there’s a one-to-one sound correspondence.

Sunny2's avatar

Old enough to be new again: Coralie

keobooks's avatar

I think Kaylee is going to be a strong one too. Then they can have Keely Kylie Kaylee (poor Keegan and Kimber will be left in the dust)

Don’t mistake me for a fan of these names, btw. This little game with bets I’m playing is the way I keep my eyes from bugging out when they say “The new baby’s name is K—-!!” I threw up a little when Keegan was announced. Bleah.

chyna's avatar

Of course you have to let us know what they actually name the baby when she is born or if they decide before.

Blueroses's avatar

@Sunny2 You’d have to spell it Koralee or Korahleigh or Koral-Lee or… ahhh damn. I give up. In 20 years, our President will have the middle name “Mtn Dew”!

Sunny2's avatar

^^^ I forgot about the K. Gettin’ old.

Kardamom's avatar

Kardamom? ; )

cazzie's avatar

I just was reminded from a K name that isn’t pronounced with a hard K, if they would consider that… not sure. Kirsti, but it isn’t pronounced with a hard K here in Norway… is sound more like… Shirsti…. but I think Kirsti is cute as well…. But I still like Karson and Kendra first. I do know many many Kirsti here. (pronounced Shirsti)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@Kardamom Nice self promotion. :)

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

Chyna had a nice one. Kyra. I think there was a song for that one.

glacial's avatar

Kira variants get a pass, in my book, because of the fabulous DS9 character.

dxs's avatar

How about the name K. Simple and to the point.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

@dxs Nope, Tommy Lee Jones already took that one.

livelaughlove21's avatar

I love Kaylee, Kenzie, Kelsey, and Kinsey. I also like Kary (a play off of Carrie) and Kendall. Kaydence is also pretty, but I prefer it with a C.

I’d totally name my kid Kinsey, just because of the Kinsey Scale. And it sort of rhymes with my name.

dxs's avatar

@livelaughlove21 @Blueroses If she’s named Kaydence, she’ll have to be in a battery.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@dxs I don’t get it. I’ll probably feel stupid once you explain, but please do.

There was nothing else left.

Oh, wait…Kanga! That was the nickname of an old girlfriend of the Prince of Wales.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@DarlingRhadamanthus Oh god that cracked me up so bad. Kmart? You rule.

JLeslie's avatar

I hope they don’t pick anything that sounds like Keloid or Keister. Can you imagine?

I thought of another. What about Kent? Sounds like a boys name, which means it would be a trendy girls name.

Also, Kamerin and Kassidy.

@livelaughlove21 I really really like Kelsey, but Kinsey? Don’t you study Psychology, or am I confusing you with someone else? Kinsey makes me think of the Kinsey report.

This thread is a riot. I’m loving the silly, out there suggestions. Can’t stop laughing at some of them. Kmart, anyone? lol

bob_'s avatar

nofurbelowsbatgirl's avatar

Krike. Krusty the Klown.

glacial's avatar

@Kardamom No, I believe they said Kiki.

augustlan's avatar

I vote for (and bet on) Katniss. Because of The Hunger Games, I expect this to be a very popular name in about 20 years…

nofurbelowsbatgirl's avatar

Knoxwell. Kingsley. Kirby. Krienna. Kallia. Kindred. Kaige. Kaos. Kalicity. Koah.

livelaughlove21's avatar

@JLeslie I do. I wouldn’t actually name my kid that. It was a tongue-in-cheek comment. It’s a bit like Kenzie, anyways.

@nofurbelowsbatgirl You caught my drift & yeah, this place is easily accessible…so long as you relax, lie back & think of England :D

KNOWITALL's avatar

@augustlan Love it!! Katelyn is my god-daughter’s name and she’s 20 now, so it’s not very original.

@Brian1946 Now KNOWITALL isn’t real popular, but I guarantee she’d be an original!

JLeslie's avatar

@livelaughlove21 The thing is, I don’t think a lot of people know. Not that it matters on this Q I guess, because it isn’t like we are suggesting names for a pregnant couple, we are just guessing what the parents will name the baby.

keobooks's avatar

I will let you guys know what they name the baby in August, when she is born. So far, they haven’t let me down on the WTF factor.

Some people have asked me to suggest certain names for them via PM. I don’t think that would work. Our tastes are totally different. For instance, my suggestion for kid #1 would have been “Anything but Keely” and my suggestion for the other three would have been “You know there are 25 other letters of the alphabet…..”

glacial's avatar

Maybe she will surprise you… and name her Keobooks.

JLeslie's avatar

@keobooks LOL.

Are the parents both K names also?

keobooks's avatar

The weird thing is.. no. Neither has a K name. My guess is that they named the first 2 a K name and then were like “Oh crap.. now we have to name them ALL K…”

JLeslie's avatar

@keobooks And, 4 girls no boys. I hope they know once you get 3 of the same you have an 80% chance of having another of the same. That stat basically stays like that. Much higher chance of having girls than boys for them with each child.

keobooks's avatar

I shoulda mentioned: Keegan is a boy. Oops. I don’t think I made that clear at all. Sorry.

Kardamom's avatar

Oh I just thought of 3 more.

Kraken

Klingon

Krikey

glacial's avatar

@Kardamom Krikey, indeed.

Kardamom's avatar

Let’s just hope they don’t name the child Krotch or Kaka or Kokoa Puff

augustlan's avatar

Ooh, you could hang this in the delivery room. ~

Kardamom's avatar

What state do they live in? They could call her Kentucky. Or if they live in the deep south (which Kentucky certainly is a part of) they could call her Kooter.

augustlan's avatar

It’s bound to scare the bejesus baby right out of her! :p

JLeslie's avatar

Oh, Keegan is a boy! I don’t know what I assumed all girls. It’s my mistake.

Kardamom's avatar

This one just popped into my head, it’s totally made up, Kuchinella.

OneBadApple's avatar

Belgium had a Queen Kuchinella in the mid-18th Century, I’m pretty sure…
.

Blueroses's avatar

Alright, another newborn entered the world this week at work and it make me remember this Q.

Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome little Kandilyte Aura to the world!

poor babe I can only think it’s an homage to the moment of conception, in which case it’s miles better than the unfortunate girl I know named LaQuinta.

dxs's avatar

@Blueroses Isn’t LaQuinta a hotel chain?

dxs's avatar

@Blueroses I’m going to name my kid Mariott. Let’s start a trend.

Blueroses's avatar

haha @dxs You’re out of my league. My spawn will be saddled with Komfortynn

dxs's avatar

@Blueroses Well Mariott’s middle name was going to be Kourtyard but we can switch them to fit the qualifications.

OneBadApple's avatar

Hampton Inn Apple.

Yeah, that’s the ticket….
.

JLeslie's avatar

LOL. I know a guy named Hamp. I think it might be a nickname though.

I’m just thinking how my grandpa thought it was so odd that Kelly was a name for a girl.

OneBadApple's avatar

That was Grandpa Marion, wasn’t it ??
.

Blueroses's avatar

But granny Traylzendde made the best moonshine this side of the Missouri

JLeslie's avatar

@OneBadApple Not that he thought it was a boy’s name, he thought of it as a last name.

OneBadApple's avatar

You know, I saw that Missouri River for the first time last month. I was, how do we say it…...disenchanted….
.
@JL Is he still with us ? If so, please get his thoughts on D’Brickashaw Ferguson….
.

JLeslie's avatar

@OneBadApple No, he died many years ago. Who is D’Brickashaw Ferguson?

OneBadApple's avatar

Respectfully, ma’am. This is why God gave us Google….
.

JLeslie's avatar

I have another. Kissinger. Did someone say that already?

Although, these parents don’t seem to be three syllable people.

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

Oh dear… If we name children according to the location of conception, my oldest should be called Beaver’s Bend Cabin. I guess I could change Cabin to Kabin, to fit the topic…

cazzie's avatar

I love Kaylee because nothing in the ‘verse can stop her from being cheerful.

Kardamom's avatar

I finally thought of one that I actually like, only it’s usually for boys and spelled with a C, but it might just work here Klancy.

snowberry's avatar

Oh, I have one. Kidnapped or a variation thereof.

Blueroses's avatar

@Kardamom I actually know a teenaged girl named Klancie

keobooks's avatar

She’s in labor. Baby #5 on the way. And with that, over trendy K name likely to follow.

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@keobooks Good luck and good health to everyone.

augustlan's avatar

Keep us posted! We should have started a pool, haha.

keobooks's avatar

OK… she DIDN’T go with a K name. Which if this is their last, could give a girl a complex. Her name is

Finley…. yeah Finley… they kept the WTF factor.

OneBadApple's avatar

Little Finley should be glad that her parents aren’t my daughter’s friends in California. They had a son last year, and named him…...Owl

How could two people agree on THAT name ? (Talk about your ‘WTF factor’....)

glacial's avatar

I had to scroll up to make sure there wasn’t already a Kinley.

Brian1946's avatar

@glacial

Did you use Ctrl F to search for a Kinley?

keobooks's avatar

I know it’s a “real” name, but to me it sounds like….. Finley the Fish. Dang I wish I thought of that for a picture book.

glacial's avatar

@Brian1946 I didn’t. Why do you ask?

WillWorkForChocolate's avatar

I’d be more comfortable with Finley, than most of the names mentioned in this thread! :D

glacial's avatar

@WillWorkForChocolate I can’t argue with that. Especially where the Kraken is concerned.

augustlan's avatar

I don’t mind Finley so much. But it’s really freaking weird that after all those K names they deviated. She’s either going to feel very special or very odd.

jordym84's avatar

@OneBadApple About a month or so ago I met a little boy at work whose parents named him (wait for it, wait for it)...Curious George!!

Kardamom's avatar

@augustlan Maybe the parents somehow hacked into this thread and thought better than to give another kid a trendy K name. At least they named her Finley and not Fluther. Ha!

OneBadApple's avatar

@jordym84

“Curious, this is my son Owl, the college professor. Owl, say hello to Senator Curious George”.....
