Is Vikings a good show?
I keep being told about this show, but I don’t have cable, so I can’t watch it. I get all my TV needs from the PlayStation Network, where I can rent episodes for a low price and watch them on my PS3. Unfortunately, while their selection of shows is huge, there is nothing about this Viking show.
Of course, I’m interested in watching it, and I think it’s interesting that they ditch the stereotypical horned helmet Viking in lieux of something that’s a little more accurate to what Vikings were. Reading about it on Wiki, it is apparently filled with historical inaccuracies, but it also goes on to explain that not very much is actually known about the period this happens in, and that a lot of the recordings that do exist are biased. But whatever, I think it’s a cool idea to make a TV show about Vikings based on real dudes and actual events. If I can have fun and learn something at the same time, seems it would be a cool show.
…but I have no way of watching it, currently. So, have you seen it? Is it any good? Does it suck? Thoughts?

It’s GREAT! The men are hot and the women are hotter. It’s more of a movie with episodes an hour long.

What I liked best was the time they all traveled to Valhalla to worship Odin and took peyote or shrooms and had a big orgy in their mystical mountain retreat, it was pretty bad-a$$, they did a good job recreating the scene. A lot of my girls at work loved it, too.
I really really enjoyed it. Somehow missed the season finale.
I kind of want to molest Ragnar. A lot. And his wife. They are both painfully sexy. And there is blood. and weapons. and awesome.
@Seek_Kolinahr Did you see the one I’m referring to above? It was SOOOO AWESOME!
YES. Mmm… viking naked dancing hallucinogen orgy…
This show was compared to Spartacus, and a lot of people appreciated that Vikings wasn’t just a celebration of blood and violence, but that it also has a bunch of history stuff in it. mind you, Spartacus is awesome, plus Lucy Lawless.
So now I really want to watch it even more, haha.
Following because I’m kind of interested in seeing it, too.
The clips that @KNOWITALL linked almost seem to have a reality tv feel, but from what I read about cast and writing, it’s a drama – what is the style like, for those who have been watching?
@glacial Like watching a super cool movie, or if you’ve watched True Blood, kind of like that in a way. I highly recommend it, and I really don’t watch a ton of tv.
Yeah, I’m pretty much sold. Will be checking out the first episode on one of those sites.
According to Nielsen, the series premiere drew 6 million viewers in the U.S., topping all broadcast networks among 18-to-49 year olds.
It was renewed, so there’ll be more coming, too!
You know what’s a good show? Breaking Bad.
Haven’t seen anything like it since “The Wire”
@Symbeline I couldn’t stand Spartacus. It was like every 10 seconds it cuts to slo mo. I feel like half the time they only filmed half an ep and then just slow-motioned it to extend the eps. Rome was a FAR superior show for that time period. If you haven’t seen it, I HIGHLY recommend it.
@Michael_Huntington Couldn’t agree more, can’t fucking wait for it to come back on this year but at the same time it’s like maybe I can wait cause there are only 8 eps left till this amazing show is completely done.
It’s fucking awesome!!! I want to have a threesome with Ragnar and his wife!
I tried to watch it online, but I can’t find any site that doesn’t suck for this. Guess I’ll have to buy it on DVD, or wait until they stick in the PSN. There was a video on YouTube that had the whole first episode, but then I was notified that oops, this isn’t available in my country. What the hell? Isn’t this a Canadian/Irish show? I’m in fucking Canada. You know what man, fuck fucking Canada.
@amujinx‘s site has playable episodes, but as soon as I play them, my computer starts to sound like a vacuum. Maybe it needs an upgrade or something. And @KNOWITALL, I am pretty braindead, but…I can’t actually find any episode listings on there. It has a whole bunch of behind the scenes but…is this cuz I’m in Canada again? I looked everywhere on there, can’t find any episodes.
But I thank you both sincerely, I appreciate the help. :)
But alas, no Vikings for me. ;/ I’m actually really fucking frustrated haha
@uberbatman Never heard of Rome, but I am now curious. I do believe I’ve seen box sets of this at the video rental place though. I think
@Symbeline Have you tried iTunes? Why does Canada gotta make it difficult for you. Bummer. :/
@Symbeline I don’t know if I should even tell you this, but History Canada has the finale up to watch for free on their website. They don’t have the eight previous episodes.
Have you tried any of the streaming sites like watchseries or megavideo or… heavens, I haven’t used any of them in so long I forget what they’re all called. They’re a little dicey because of the pop-up ads full of virus-y goodness, but maybe worth a shot.
^ Hey, that’s how I’ve kept up with Dexter for years. That’s another one I need to molest…
@Symbeline you will LOVE Rome. The costume and set design alone make the show worth watching. Unfortunately it was also these two factors that led to its ultimate cancellation. It cost something like 2 mil per episode and unfortunately the show never really got a huge following :(
Oh crap – yeah, you will love Rome. If you’ve never seen it, you need to get on that!
@uberbatman I just read a bit about Rome. They seemed to have a lot of good ideas for later seasons, but then were told halfway through season 2 that it would be the last, so they just kind of compressed all their ideas into what they had left. A shame, seems like a good series. :/
@glacial Yeah I tried a few of those streaming sites. Vimeo seems decent, will have to look into that one. A lot of them have seem too much like a threat though. :/
Oddly enough, I’m actually watching my DVR’d episodes today for the first time. It fucking rocks. It’s pretty safe to say that you will LOVE it.
