How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop?
I cannot, even as an adult exercise enough patience to find out without biting into the tootsie roll centers deliciousness.

I haven’t had a Tootsie Pop for years and when I used to have them, it never occurred to me to count. I don’t think I ever had one without someone having one with me and we’d probably have distracted each other to make the count incorrect. You’ll have to count it for me and I’ll use your answer every time some one asks me. That’s as good trivia as knowing how many feet of streetcar tracks there are in the city of Pittsburgh!
The world will never know. But one time, I kicked into the air like, 37 times in a row, just for the hell of it.
I’m a biter, not a licker. When I eat a Tootsie Pop, which nowadays is almost never, I pop it right in and crunch it right down. Which is probably why my dentist is driving a Jag.
Werther’s Original is my hard candy of choice. A quote I found says it for me: “A lot of people like lollipops. I don’t. To me, a lollipop is hard candy plus garbage. I don’t need a handle. Just give me the candy.”
On average, 387 for orange, from the thick band around the outside.
6th grade project.
It depends on the salivary ratio – the amount of moisture on the tongue and the time of the taste.
It also related to the surface area of the tongue – a big tongue will have greater TRC (Tootsie Roll Coverage) and therefore will reduce the number of licks required.
The equations is roughly thus:
(TRC * pi) / sqrt TongueSurfaceArea
——————————————————————-
sum (TRC * TCA) + 5
Note that the color makes a difference as well; purples require less licks than orange.
I find the Chocolate flavor to be softer.
Also, I have a long tongue, so your mileage may vary.
