Can I remove my black toe nail pain free?

So, I have a very black big toe nail. I did it last year and it half grew out and then I did it again and it is as black as ever. I did it around April time and it is still uncomfortable to touch. I saw the Podiatrist at work, but we don’t really get on, so I take her advice with a pinch of salt. My nail is lifting up at the front. I feel pain like a man so would like to be able to remove it fairly pain free if possible?
