Fontographer on winxp not running: why?

I2 gigs seems like plenty of RAM, but if generating an entire font family is a memory intensive job, it may be looking for more than 20 gigs of hard drive to use as virtual memory while processing.

fontographer 4.1 is like ten years dead already, we used to wprk in it on 750mhz processors and 2 or less gb free hd… so… i really dont get why it doesnt work
maybe it is not written to handle the ram the way its handled now… i dont know…

@manuel_alarcon Could well be. So pick up a dead cheap old Y2K computer and just keep it off the Internet.

See here Fontographer is a 32-bit application but has not been optimized to run under Windows 2000 or Windows XP. The problem seems to be a RAM allocation issue.

The page lists some solutions to getting it to work.

This is a long shot but you may have too much memory installed. XP may not run well, but try popping 1GB out of the machine (if that’s possible) and see what that does.

Guys, I made a test: I went to see my parents, and remembered an old pc stored in the backyard shed; an Old pentium 3 with a 448mhz processor and 240mhz ram. Then installed Fontographer and oh boy it ran smoothly.
