Kitten has watery eyes and discharge coming from both his eyes and nose. Any suggestions?
I want to keep the kitten (he’s a stray), but I really don’t want a big vet bill at the moment, either. Are there any home remedies that could cure this (i.e. eye drops, antibiotics, etc.)?

Aww, poor baby.
My Schrodinger had a pretty horrible eye infection as a baby. I wiped his face a few times a day with a warm washcloth. Treated it the same as I would one of my own eye infections. In fact, I believe what actually helped him was the antibiotic eyedrops I already happened to have for myself.
The baby needs medicine if his eyes are infected.
He really needs to see a vet.
If you have another cat please make sure not to let them play together in case it is contagious.
I don’t want to alarm you but for the other cat owners isn’t this the symptoms of a really bad cat illness? I just can’t recall what it is.
Is the kitten eating and/or drinking? Is he underweight? Does his stool look normal (not runny, slimy, etc)? Does he meow a lot? Is he lethargic? What colour is the discharge? Is their also discharge from his anus? Have you looked him over for any wounds/sores? We really need more information than you’ve provided. And please keep him quarantined if you have other pets. I think you should take him to the vet though. It could be any number of things.
I’m in agreement with the others about taking the kitty to the vet.
I know it’s expensive, but maybe there is a low cost veterinarian in your area?
It could be anything. Maybe something as simple as allergies? But it could be something a lot worse and there’s no way of knowing without consulting a professional.
I would maybe call a couple of different places, explain the situation, and see how they can help you.
Do you have a PetSmart near you? Some of them have the Banfield clinics inside them. I believe that they are pretty reasonably priced.
Good luck and keep up posted.
I adopted a couple of strays once(dumped near my neighborhood); they both had runny noses and eyes, it’s not uncommon. It’s probably just an upper respiratory infection, but as others have said, he needs to be seen by a vet.
Vet. Period. It sounds like it could be an upper respiratory infection.
Even if it turns out to be a small thing, you won’t regret taking your kitten to the vet. If it’s a bigger issue and goes untreated, you’ll always regret it if you didn’t.
Yes, take him to the vet ASAP and make sure any other cats are not exposed and/or already vaccinated for distemper and respiratory illnesses.
Little kittens are very vulnerable to these infections and they can be fatal if left untreated, not to mention they feel sick and miserable. In other words, to do nothing is to allow the kitten to suffer. Not acceptable, get him to the vet now, today!
@Adirondackwannabe You’re thinking of distemper.
You can try washing his eyes with a warm wash cloth and baby shampoo. Then wash your hands really, really well. This isn’t a good sign.
Even if this stray kitten weren’t sick, you should take him to a vet for a general check and his baby shots. If you’re planning to keep him, you should also be planning on taking responsible care of him.
You could try to keep him wo the vet. Wash him and buy some lysine caps that open for powder. He could have a cold or allergies.
I wouldn’t really advise doing this as he should get a wellness check and his shots. Also it should be spayed or neutered.
But if you don’t have children or another animal and you are careful on hygiene you could see if it improves.
Our area has a campaign that will get together a couple of times a year and spay/neuter animals for 20 or 40 dollars I think.
