Who played God/Jesus best in movies/TV?

Asked by ucme (50047points) June 11th, 2013

Religion, religion, religion…here’s a harmless little question that should stay argument free, although this being Fluther, who knows =o}

Morgan Freeman. Shame about the rest of the film though.

Another vote for Morgan Freeman. Another one was Jim Caviezel in the Passion movie. Hottest Jesus I’ve ever seen.

George Burns

Jim Cavieziel.

Morgan Motha Fuckin Freeman. That man has the voice of god. I would have chose him for my answer even if he never played him in a movie :P

George Burns in a comedy, Charlton Heston’s voice in a drama.

For Jesus, Max Von Sydow in “The Greatest Story Ever Told” and Willem Dafoe in “The Last Temptation of Christ.

For God, George Burns in “Oh, God!” and Charlton Heston’s voice in “The Ten Commandments.” Special mention: Jose Perez in Steambath.

I’m not in the slightest bit religious, but when I was a kid there was this mini series Jesus of Nazareth, with Robert Powell in the lead role & he was brilliant, excellent cast too.

My favorite was actress Katherine Joosten who had a recurring role as God on the TV show Joan of Arcadia.

@Seek_Kolinahr Right on sistah, I still think his best film was Darkman although The Grey was very good too.

The Grey was a HORRIBLE movie. Seriously, @ucme.

George Burns and Robert Powell.

Jim Cavieziel, absolutely. His performance was nothing short of great acting, dedication, passion, and bravery for playing such a controversial role.

If the real Jesus played himself in a movie that ended with his crucifixion, would there be a sequel three days later?

ucme's avatar

^^ It’d be 28 days later & hay-soos would be a zombie nazarine.

Katniss's avatar

Would he be a fast zombie? Or a slow, stumbling, 70’s throwback zombie?

ucme's avatar

Neither, he’d be a walking on water zombie, sorta like a small hovercraft, except not.

Katniss's avatar

That’s some crazy shit right there. lol

That’s what the humble fisherman who witnessed the spectacle said…

Bahahahahaha!! You sir, make me laugh!

Jesus? Michael Rennie in “The Day The Earth Stood Still”

God? Alanis Morissette in “Dogma”.

Katniss's avatar

I cannot believe I forgot about Alanis Morrisette!

Kardamom's avatar

Here’s the Guy who should play God.

El_Cadejo's avatar

@filmfann GOOD CALL! Totally forgot about her playing god. Great movie, think I’m going to have to go watch that now.

@Kardamom Nah he’s just an angel

Kardamom's avatar

@uberbatman In that movie he was an angel, but he’s kind of God-like in real life, doncha think.? Just listen to that voice….

Of course there’s always This Guy

I’m almost having an orgasm heart attack imagining him dressed up in This Outfit and Vice Versa, the Other Way Around

ucme's avatar

Cheers folks, good stuff.
As for who should play him in the future, it’s gotta be Santa…wait, let me explain.
No one’s ever seen him & yet their purported image is more or less identical, save for their outfits. Opinions are split on their existence, but believers are passionate followers & have faith in their supposed ability to perform miracles.
Finally, what seals the deal for me is Santa has previous acting experience in numerous big screen films & can step up to the plate & knock the holiest of holies outta the park.

I don’t know why but I’ve always liked Ted Neeley as Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. And I love Morgan Freeman as God.

Max von Sydow play Jesus, have accent, sound German Nazi, call himself “Cheeses”. Mel Brooks is good Moses, have three tablets, say he bring 15 commandments, drop one, then say 10 commandments.

BiZhen's avatar

Swedish actor Max von Sydow was memorable. When someone asked who he was, he said in his accent, “I am Cheeses.” How appropriate!
