What's the first word or phrase someone who knew you in your daily life would use to describe you?

Asked by Judi (40025points) June 16th, 2013

If someone were trying to describe you to someone else, “you know, @Judi, she’s blond, about this tall….”
When I was over weight I’m sure that they would probably say, “blonde, a little chunky,” They might add, “blunt.”
It’s funny how people in different situations see me differently. My employees compared notes with my kids once and decided they were dealing with two different people.
How about you? How would someone else describe you to a friend?

Maybe something like, “She’s short, has really curly hair, twisted sense of humor, says what she thinks…”

Mama_Cakes's avatar

“Quiet confidence”

”...and always has a smile on her face.”

“He’s one of the good guys, worships his kids & loads of fun to be around…who now owes me £50”

Sweet, but really quiet.

The two phrases that people commonly use to pick me out are “the guy with the long red hair” and “the guy who looks like a Viking.”

It’s not all the surprising when you consider that I basically look like this.

Dutchess_III's avatar

You should make that your av, @SavoirFaire.

“Big guy, deep voice…” and either “kinda scary” or “wicked nice”. Depending on my relationship with them.

filmfann's avatar

The big guy who is funny. Everyone calls him Superman.

If someone asked those who know me, “Tell me about Kat,” I think the most common adjective would be “smart”.

Kardamom's avatar

I was recently described, to my parents, by a co-worker who was meeting my folks for the first time, as funny and nice.

tinyfaery's avatar

I’m not sure. Smart? Crazy?

“The one with the crazy boots.”

A kid said ‘the girl with the golden hair’, my husband says ‘loud’. lol

What I often hear when I am walking away from people at work is: “She is really sweet.”

If in reference to appearance they would probably say the brown haired girl mostly likely dressed like a hippie. I tend to dress a mix of bohemian, avant garde, utilitarian the strength of the mix depends on the day and the mood but that somehow all translates to hippie.

Sweet is not how I would describe myself at all. You are essentially asking for people’s opinion of themselves since many of us don’t know how we are described by others when we aren’t around.

If I described myself I would say slightly disorganized, but capable trustworthy, moody, with an elephant’s memory excelling at diplomacy.

tinyfaery's avatar

Oh, and loud.

Mama_Cakes's avatar

Just your laugh. ;) You have the best laugh.

Mama_Cakes's avatar

I’ve met tinyfaery. She had loud laugh, was most definitely craz-ay and a smart cookie. She picked up Euchre no problem. Her wife on the other hand had problems with Euchre. haha.. ;-)

How I look I think they would say brown hair, blue eyes. I doubt they would mention my weight because I am kind of average build, but I could be wrong. I think they would say I am very social and outgoing.

Edit: and I am loud, I’ll steal that from @tinyfaery.

About work vs. family; a coworker of my husband’s who I became friends with once was describing my husband and labelled him analytical. I never would have chosen that word as my top 5 to describe my husband. I found that very interesting. My husband tells me all the time I have no idea what he is like at work.

RockerChick14's avatar

Weird and independent.

Unbroken's avatar

@JLeslie I agree we have different aspects and qualities we express according to our environment.

I believe @Judi pointed this out with her detailing the difference in the pov between her coworkers and children.

Some people the difference is more pronounced.

JLeslie's avatar

@Unbroken Right, the only reason I even mentioned my husband was because @Judi mentioned it in her original post.

Funny? Androgynous? Kinda faggy? Intense/Serious? Quiet?
Depends on who is describing me, and in what context we know each other.

Kardamom's avatar

@bookish1 Kinda faggy, that actually sounds sweet, but only because I apparently am a bit of a fag hag.

I’d say you’re kinda wonderful : )

bookish1's avatar

@Kardamom : Daww, thank you. And surely anyone who knows you would say you have a big heart :) And I did mean the “kinda faggy” as an affectionate label some have given me.

Plucky's avatar

The main whispered phrase I hear when walking away… “She’s so quiet.”

Those who know me better, will say I am very compassionate and intelligent (and of course, plucky). People also tend to like my smile and big brown eyes.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I asked an ex-coworker if I could use her as a reference. She said “Sure.”
I said, “BUT WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO SAY ABOUT ME???”
She said, “That you’re crazy and thrifty!”
I said, “Leave the thrifty part out. They’ll think I’m cheap.”
