Having grown up in Virginia, a lot of southern names were encountered. There were two types: the more aristocratic southern names and those that were from the rural areas. In the first group, names were often taken from ancestors. They sometimes go by their first and middle name. Examples:
– Patti Russell
– Mary Hufford
– Carter Crutchfield
– John Barry
For the country folk, the names are simpler:
– Mae Donna
– Ann Marie
– Katie Lee
I once met a girl from Alabama. Her name was Southern. She told me that her sisters’ names were Dixie and Rebel. You can’t get much more ‘south of the Mason-Dixon line’ than that.
Betty Jean
Claudette
Charlotte
Martha Jean
The Southern ladies of Fluther pulled through!
Thanks, everyone!
Shego’s the winner, though.
Betty Lou Sarah Jane Fanny May Jethrine Clampett.

This reminds me of that scene in Ted
I can’t believe no one said Blanche Devereaux.
^^ That reminds me also of Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire,
