Is World War Z exciting enough for zombie fans out there?

Asked by mazingerz88 (29220points) June 20th, 2013

I read the book and loved it. Was glad when I heard a movie with Brad Pitt was being made. Although I wondered how much they can show and capture in a movie when a book like that is such an epic.

Now it’s here, opening in theaters tomorrow and so far, majority of critics have given it a thumbs up. As a zombie fan, I’m really excited-!

I find the previews disquieting. The only redeeming qualities that zombies have is that they are slow and shuffling. WWZ zombies give me the willies.

I’ve read some reviews that say it’s visually cool and the action is good, but the story telling is lazy and uninspiring.

Interesting evolution of Zombies this movie portrays. Seems more like a swarm attacking an organism. Like ant colonies, no one Z is very intelligent or noteworthy. But together, the colony expresses desire, intent and awesome power. Can’t help but draw analogies to the common individual being empowered with cloud crowd resourcing.

I read an interview with Max Brooks, the author of the “Z” book series, who said that the movie and his novels share a common title and not much more. He didn’t say that the film is bad; he just said that it isn’t a dramatization of his works. He didn’t write the screenplay, and he wasn’t invited to participate in the movie’s creative process.

@SadieMartinPaul I’m sure he got paid plenty for the movie rights, though.

Well you know my answer to this already, bro. :) I denno if it will be the zombie movie to end all zombie movies. I doubt that. But I’m expecting it to kick some decent ass, fo sho. I prefer shambling zombies, but variety is always good, as long as the zombie theme is being respected. And Max Brooks is certainly and totally schoolgirl style when it comes to obeying the rules. Let’s just hope that Carnahan and forster follow suite. Either way, I’m hyped, this looks great.

Looks good, looking forward to seeing a rollicking action flick regardless of the nerd-fest which inevitably follows any new zombie film around.
The zombie element, while cool, is not the primary reason for my anticipation, could just as well be vampires/demons/an army of disenchanted rednecks…actually, scratch that last one, that’d be fucking awful.

Just saw it. Liked and enjoyed it. They didn’t spend serious money promoting this so maybe through word of mouth it might gain really good box-office traction. I’m anticipating a sequel. I read the book and hope this is not a spoiler ( LOL ) but I feel they only touched 10 percent of it. Hence more sense in coming up with a sequel and even a third installment. I’m betting this would do well in earnings.

@Symbeline…when you dip in that popcorn bag sistah, think of my rotting zombie hand coming out of it-! LOL
