@gailcalled I swam in a cenote in Belize (but Samoa would be cool!).
I do it right i my back yard. Open burning is prohibited in NY but cooking fires are legal. All you need is a hot dog or a marshmallow on a stick to be considered a cooking fire. So we will have smores.
Stokes State Forest with my kids and grandkid(s) there.
About 25 miles north of here using one of these contraptions
In the fire ring in my front yard.
On a beach along the Pacific Ocean.
Wherever I find myself in an emergency situation, if I ever do. I practice Leave No Trace and so never build a fire when camping if I don’t absolutely have to.
It’s a no burn zone in these parts so we bought a propane campfire that we can burn on our patio. We have an awesome view.
I used to have little camp fires out in the backyard with my upstairs neighbor, her boyfriend and their two kids. In fact, at first, they had to just about drag me by the arm out of my place to join them, I never wanted to. But after, I always came when they invited me, and it was great.
…but she moved away last year and now I have no one to make fires with. lame
Our front yard. We have one every weekend, weather permitting. We can see for miles in all directions and we have very little light pollution, so the stargazing is beautiful. It’s our own little heaven right out our front door.
No more campfires for me these days after moving to the edge of town after years of rural mountain living.
I will miss the big bonfire camp outs across the road from my old house where there is an annual big bash on the property. Nothing like being able to party it up and only having to walk about 100 yards home.
Now it is candle light and solar torches by my little garden. lol
We have fires in our little fire bowl in the backyard as well (since we live in the city) – real wood fires, not the gas ones. I don’t really see them as camp fires though. Just, um… backyard fires, perhaps? Either way, they are nice to have when you can’t go camping. I love outdoor fires (well, the ones in fire pits/bowls).
We rarely use our gas fireplace that’s in our house. Maybe about 5 -10 times in the winter.
