Pop Stars or Pundits? Should Hollywood opine politically?

Asked by Knotmyday (7516points) June 17th, 2008

From “Hanoi Jane” to “Earthquake Sharon,” Hollywood stars have been using their position in the limelight to further political agendas. Whaddya think?

Doesn’t really bother me one way of the other. But, then again I don’t place much importance on “stars” and their political opinions.

All evidence to the contrary, this is a free country. Anyone can offer whatever opinion they like.

I don’t fault them for using their platform, but it troubles me deeply that anyone would actually be swayed by it. We Americans have real issues with distinguishing image from reality.

I don’t have a problem with it. If I ever found myself in a position to have a voice that would reach many, I’d share my thoughts as well.

The listening public should have the ability to analyze statements made in the media, compare to other sources, etc. Anyone who doesn’t in this day & age is intellectually lazy.

Let them eat cake, talk cake, or throw up cake. It is up to the listener to discern value in the pronouncements of Britney Spears and her ilk. (Or anyone else for that matter.)
