As opposed to…unnatural wood? I would assume so, yes.
You mean the cheap faux wood grain ones…. Nah… they are cheap for a reason.
You can get wood ones or make your own and they are worth it. If you knock it off the wall in an upheaval, earthquake, moving or dusting.
Plus they look better and hold up over time. Welcome to Fluther btw. : )
Are you looking at wood frames online? If so, I’d double check the item description and inquire with the vendor.
I’ve come across several instances on Amazon where the item material is listed as wood, but it’s actually made from plywood, MDF or particle board. Yes, all three are technically made from wood. But I think describing them as wood is misleading.
If possible, I try to google the item and cross reference the material listed on different sites.
Good luck!
I make frames by hand. Much of my stock is from Framerica, all wood, but is actually wood fibre wrapped in vinyl. Most of your “wood” frames will be like this. It’s like press board, very straight and strong as long as it does not get wet for extended periods. It’s the same grade wood as you’ll find in any office furniture store.
More expensive stock is treated pine, oak, redwood. Must be custom cut from a lumber yard or ordered from specialty frame shop. Very expensive and not nearly as easy to work with. But if you can get straight pieces, it is very beautiful and stronger than most fibre board.
Your question is your answer: wood frames are made of wood. However, there are a lot of materials that can be made to look like wood, so you’ll have to examine it carefully to see if the frame you have is made of wood. Are you asking about a specific frame? Can you post a picture for us to see?
