How often do you find yourself thinking about death?

Asked by Drush545 (229points) June 26th, 2013

Its a sometimes very unfortunate yet inevitable part of this life. It marks the end of all that we have ever known so far and the end of our stay on this earth. Some believe that nothing happens to us and that we simply cease to exist. Others believe that we are judged for our actions and sins in this life. Still yet, others believe we are reborn back into the world in some form or other.

I think about death fairly often and have had a few close calls too. I simply can not imagine everything that I know coming to an abrupt end…

When I feel life is too unfair to me and I don’t want to live

Often which is weird because I have a pretty happy life. I don’t know why I do it but I do.

When attending a funeral for example.

Thinking about death too often can be a sign for depression or anxiety disorder. It might be good to rule this out.

I think about death a lot. My own death does not concern me anymore (although it used to) but I worry about the deaths of my loved ones a great deal. I do have an anxiety order @mattbrowne and this is one of the thoughts that quite often cripple me with fear.

I only think about it in terms of what it takes to have a long life, or there’s a funeral in the family.

I am far too aware of my own mortality for my age. It makes me cautious and a little bit boring.

Constantly, it’s always on the back of my mind if it is not one of the main thoughts. In fact, it occupies most of my thoughts and rules out the “live life” part! Strange as it may sound, it has always been like that, ever since I was a child.

I have no fear of death, rarely think about it, accept it, have dealt with it many times now in my 54 years of living.
However….I DO think about euthanasia if and when my life becomes compromised by either physical or financial lack of quality. I am all about quality of life and if I end up sick and broke, well…time to harvest some Oleander leaves and brew up a little tea. I really don’t understand the stigma about suicide, hey….if you’re not happy and healthy why the hell would you want to keep living?

Find the herd of Lemmings and drive yourself over a cliff. lol

Actually, speaking of death, my 25 yr. old daughter just got hired for a moonlighting job doing recovery work for a local mortuary. Great pay picking up old folks from nursing homes and hospice. No morbid stuff, that’s the Coroners work. She will be on call 3 nights a week working with a retired CHP officer who jokes that people are just dying to meet him. lol
She just viewed her first corpse, a little 80 lb.100 year old woman in diapers with little socks on. Awww…...poor little ancient thing.

Several times a day + some.

Though it is not always about me. Nor are my thoughts always negative. Death is almost more interesting then birth because we know what comes after, no speculation, though there is always more to discover.
