How do you know if you are in love with someone or if you are simply infatuated?
I feel like the two emotions can feel almost identical to each other. To me, the only difference is that infatuation usually does not last as long and is not as dominant of an emotion. Love usually tends to last a lot longer and creates a stronger chemical and emotional connection between the two individuals. Infatuation always fades in the end. Even if not right away. Love can often stand the test of time itself.

Hey, welcome to Fluther, and great question. I guess one important thing to ask yourself is, are you thinking mostly of this person because of what they do for you (boost your ego, make you feel validated, trigger lust, etc.), or because of who they are? Do you want to share yourself with them in a healthy way, or do you want to use them to satisfy your needs? How would you feel if they ended up with someone else?
Wait for the first huge fight. If you make up the next day, it’s love. If not, it was infatuation.
Love is about wanting the other person to be happy and succeed in life.
It is about caring more for the other person’s well-being.
The smell, you will know true love by the smell. If you are utterly, truly, completely intoxicated by their smell, it might be true love.
I knew I was in love when I prayed that she would find happiness in her life, with or without me.
Wow, I think you’ve nailed it, @zenvelo.
I pray for his happiness everyday…
