Not sure if you are only interested in new movies or whether you might be open to movies that are a few years, or a few decades old.
I loved the 2 Sherlock Holmes movies with Robert Downey Jr.
Any of the Star Trek movies (although the first one, Star Trek the motion picture, deviated from the spirit of the original show a little too much, and the uniforms were just plain wrong)
A really great movie, from 1985, called The Emerald Forest is quite interesting. It’s about an American family that is working on the outskirts the Brazilian rain forest. Their young son is kidnapped by the indigenous people. The father spends many years trying to find his son, and finally does after about 10 years, by this time, his son is about 16 or 17 years old and has been raised by the indigenous people. Beautiful scenery, wrenching heartbreak, and wonderful scenes of life within a stone age society.
If you like comedy with your action, you might enjoy the hilarious WWII romp, 1941 by Steven Spielberg. This is one of those movies that gets better upon multiple viewings. There is a scene with actor Slim Pickens, on a Japanese submarine that is worth the entire cost of admission. Great music, and lots of memorable lines that you will want to repeat to friends such as, “Horrry Woooooooooooooood!”
A bittersweet movie with action, intrigue and romance is Atonement, with Keira Knightly. It has a very un-expected plot line.
One of my favorite movies, is called My Life as a Dog, is about a young Swedish boy (subtitled) who has been sent to the countryside to live with relatives while his mother is in the hospital. This is more adventure, not a lot of action, but it will resonate with you for a long time.
And of course both the English and Swedish versions of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Action, drama, scenery, mystery and fantastic actors (both versions). I would say both versions are equal in every respect, except that I preferred the snowy, rural scenery in the English version, better than the dirty cityscapes from the Swedish version.
The Illusionist with Edward Norton, just watch it.
And most recently, I watched a great movie with Michael Caine (anything with MC is fantastic) called Flawless about a diamond robbery, but with a twist.
That should keep you busy for awhile : )
