This is a wonderfully informative site.

(The short answer – you can mimize risk factors for Type 2 diabetes with diet and excercise. You can’t “prevent” Type 1.)

This is amazing stuff to consider: http://www.ted.com/talks/peter_attia_what_if_we_re_wrong_about_diabetes.html

There are always new studies.

Specific dietary recommendations? Cut way down on carbs. Cut out white rice, potatoes and pasta (except low-carb). Eat whole grains if you must eat grains. Choose quinoa over wheat.

Eat 100% rye bread or low-carb bread. Cut out all refined sugar.

Walk at least 30 minutes per day.

Welcome to Fluther.

Prevention works better than trying to cure after the fact.

If you have type 1, you’re just screwed.

If you are genetically predisposed to type 2 or are “prediabetic,” it often can be prevented, but it takes a serious change in lifestyle. And, since type 2 doesn’t kill in a matter of weeks like untreated type 1, and since humans are, as a species, not very good at long term thinking, most people just end up getting type 2 rather than taking steps to stop it before it starts.

Say no to oil, junk food and too much sugar and try walking for 20–30 minutes every morning from 4–6,it should help you out.

The natural treatment for type 1 diabetes is human insulin. A cure isn’t available yet. However, there are nonnatural treatments that are even better and they are called insulin analogs. Natural isn’t always better.
