“What if you haven’t logged into Yahoo! for over a year, but want to keep your Yahoo! ID? It’s easy. All you have to do is log on to any Yahoo! product before July 15th.”
From this article.
I don’t think this is a good idea.

It makes sense to me since there must be thousands of accounts of people who have died, and they should get cleared out.
I’m happy you asked this question. I don’t use my yahoo! account anymore, haven’t for years but it is still linked to a couple of my other accounts (flickr, photobucket etc) I’m wondering if I would have been able to log into those sites with the yahoo one no longer valid.
People who have died yes it makes sense. Do you find it has been has it been publicized much?
A few years ago Yahoo deleted everything if you haven’t logged in for 4 months.
Edit: drunken fluther….wrong thread…
It’s pretty bad when ya do the whole cover one eye deal and the words are still jumping all over the page….
@uberbatman I feel terrible. Anyway I didn’t address your answer which matches my OP.
I deleted my Yahoo account years ago and have been happily judging Yahoo users ever since, Internet Hipster that I am. I don’t mind about Yahoo reassigning old email addresses, though I’m skeptical they have anyone to assign them to.
I just don’t see the need for it, considering there are con-artists out there who don’t need help to do their evil deeds.
