Why would an auto insurance appraiser take pics of a house?

Asked by gambitking (4206points) July 3rd, 2013

A friend was recently in an auto accident, apparently the other driver has a shady insurance company.

Today there was someone in his front yard, who claimed to be from a ‘private company’ hired by the insurance company and was just appraising the damage to his vehicle, but he was also taking pictures of his house. Why would this guy be taking photos of the house (the guy said it was “because its a nice house”.) Which doesn’t really fly. Any of you jellies know why?

He’s trespassing and should be asked to leave immediately.

Your friend should get info about the private co. and call his insurance rep. immediately and report the incident.

Agree with @gailcalled. He needs to call his adjuster and report this. It could be someone working for the other person (just a friend?) trying to get an idea of how much your friend is worth for a lawsuit.

Report him to the huge agency that all Insurance agents are hired by.
Especially If you wish to settle out of court.
I was hit by a car a few years ago and it took one and a half years to settle!
It would had took longer except that I found out that tidbit of inormation from my older brother whose hobby was learning law.
I phoned the Insurance agents office and asked Who is the agency hired by…they HAVE to by law give that information out to you.
I telephoned them and they got on that agents back to settle NOW!
Apparently IF and agent Can delay settlement he gains commissions for every day that it is delayed!
He was merely padding his bank account by delaying action to settle.
My claim got settled in a matter of a month!

@gambitking
Some have London Life or Sun Life as their employers that regulate the Insurance agencies.

If you are in the US, report this to your state insurance commissioner.
