What is a "decorative fireplace that uses liqid or solid fuel" referring to?
I’m filling out a questionnaire for my house insurance people. I have a wood burning fireplace. Wood is a solid fuel, right? It’s decorative, but it is a real fire. We don’t build the fire high enough to actually warm a room. We just sit by it in the wintertime because I keep the thermostat down.

I think it sounds like something that “looks” like a fire place but doesn’t have a chimney or flue and therefore burns a limited range of fuel like ethanol or gel fuel.
A decorative fireplace is just box heater in the shape of a fireplace. It has no chimney and does not require any special flooring.
A fireplace that burns wood and has a chimney can be considered decorative, but is a real fireplace.
it means ‘methylated spirits’ don’t put it down as that.Wood is not considered a solid fuel.
Could the question be 3 distinct things, as in “Decorative, liquid or solid fuel fireplaces”.
Any solid fuel (I would consider coal or gas) burning fp would be vented, as would a natural gas insert. The decorative appliances I’ve seen are electric or sterno (liquid?) units that can be placed anywhere and provide more ambiance than warmth.
wood is considered to be a solid fuel
