Have you seen the video of Yasiin Bey(Mos Def) demonstrating the force feeding procedures at Guantánamo Bay?
I just came across this video myself and wanted to share it with the collective for those who haven’t seen it. A warning, it is pretty hard to watch this. I just found myself thinking about how horrible this was and yet Bey had the ability to tell them to stop whenever he felt it was too much, I can only imagine how much worse it must be for those in Guantánamo.
According to this article the hunger striking has evidently stopped but there still seems to be some debate about the truth in that.
Should force feeding like this be allowed? What can be done to stop it?

I can’t watch. I know it’s horrific.
This is awful, but what is the answer? Release them? Let them starve? It is easier to point out the problem than show the solution.
@filmfann I agree completely. I really don’t know what can be done. It’s inhumane to let them starve but in a way so much worse to be doing this. This whole situation is fucked.
I can’t watch it either but I know something of what it entails and it is torture. Maybe meeting with them and their lawyers and listening to their demands would be of use? Gitmo is a blot on the nation and a blot on Obama’s integrity.
I don’t want to watch. I read about force feeding in The Gulag Archipelago and in articles about suffragettes. It sounds like its just as brutal now. To me it is indistinguishable from torture.
I would never watch a thing like that. Everything about that Guantanamo business is horrible.
Another non watcher. How can a civilised country allow this to happen? Not only have the lives of these people been taken from them but they are also denied death. Cut off from humanity they exist in a meaningless void. When the president talks of American justice and freedom it all rings hollow because of this.
It is not torture if the west does it.
@flutherother
Simple. A civilised country does not allow this to happen.
Are they feeding them pork?
