Do you have a bucket list of artists/bands that you want to see? If so, who are they?
I’m going to make mine right now.
Just thinking of artists that you’ve always wanted to see (before they croak!).

Okay, so these are older musicians who may stop touring at any point. haha
Paul McCartney
Pink Floyd (with Waters and Gilmour. No Wright, though :(). I did see The Wall a few years ago with Waters, but I would like to see them perform their other stuff. Especially Dark Side of the Moon. Probably won’t happen, though.
Led Zepplin
Aretha Franklin
Radiohead
Prince
Bowie
Queen (even without Mercury. A few years ago, they were touring with the lead singer of Bad Company. I heard that it was a good concert. I’m jealous, as all of my sibs saw Queen perform when Freddie was alive)
Tool (I saw them at Lollapalooza, but it was only a short set)
Tori Amos
Eric Clapton
Journey (with Steve Perry)
The Who
Emmylou Harris
Billy Joel
Tina Turner
Madonna (to make my girl happy)
Also, a huge concert with a bunch of British bands all rolled into one. The Smiths, Joy Division (minus Curtis :(), Pulp, Echo & the Bunnyman, and Duran Duran.
I’d really like to see Decemberists. They seem to be on permanent hiatus.
I saw Jakob Dylan a couple years ago, I’d like to see him again but with the Wallflowers.
I missed Mumford and Sons when they were here earlier in the summer.
I’d like to see Van Morrison again, but for a full show, not the hour and 15 minutes he played last time I saw him.
The only big name I have never seen live is Carlos Santana, really want to see him. But I have seen most of the big names from the 60s 70s and 80s, at least in their current iteration.
@zenvelo Very cool. I saw the Decemberists a few times in Detroit. Great band live. I’d also like to see Van Morrison.
Of the bands that I listed, that you saw, which ones did you enjoy the most? The least?
Shit, never mind my post, @zenvelo. I misread your post. Thought that you said that you saw most of the bands that I listed. haha
@Mama_Cakes I’ve seen, from you r list:
Pink Floyd (with Waters )
Radiohead
Prince
Tori Amos
Eric Clapton
Journey (with Steve Perry)
The Who
Emmylou Harris
Tina Turner
Prince was booed off the stage. He was opening for the Rolling Stones at Candlestick Park, just an unsufferable ass.
Radiohead was great, saw them at Outside Lands Festival, only problem was it was so damn cold as the fog was thick over Golden Gate Park and the wind was blowing about 20 mph.
Who at Oakland Coliseum was fantastic show, but I was a bit drug addled. Still one of my favorites.
Journey was a warm up act at Day on the Green.
Led Zeppelin – supposed to be touring soon.
Sting
I wouldn’t mind seeing Paul McCartney
I’ve seen Bowie but there is a rumour he will tour again despite protesting that he won’t.
Pink Floyd would have been fabulous – but yes with Waters and Gilmour.
Seen Clapton
Seen Journey – not with Steve Perry. They were okay…not as good as I expected.
Missed out on tickets to see The Who, would love to see them.
Seen Billy Joel, he was great.
Seen Mark Knofler but not with Dire Straits. He was great.
I’m seeing George Benson when I get back from my trip.
Seeing Fleetwood Mac too.
I’d like to see George Michael – I just think he’d be cool to see.
I’d like to see Sarah McClaughlin
I would love to see the Foo Fighters
I can’t think of anyone else (perhaps because it’s 2 am!)
@Bellatrix I got to see Fleetwood Mac and Foo Fighters. Both great. Stevie was looking like a gypsy! :)
My girlfriend has a thing for George Michael, as well. :)
The Smiths, A Perfect Circle, Foo Fighters, Afrocelts, Tabla Beat Science, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method, MC Solaar, Radiohead, Daft Punk, The Killers, Lords of Acid, Indochine, Orbital, The Prodigy, Underworld…
But many of these groups either will never perform together again, or barely ever tour in the U.S…
Yeah, I’m looking forward to seeing Fleetwood Mac!
I had tickets to see George Michael but he cancelled.. :-( We’d even booked to go to Sydney!
I’ve seen Sting when he toured with The Police and he also did a tour where he played a lute .. I’d like to see him do his solo stuff.
@bookish1
Half a pound of heroin
Half a pound of treacle
That’s the way the story goes
Out comes the evil
Mine isn’t so much before they croak but bands that the likelihood of them coming to my area or touring at all is so slim I probably won’t get to see them.
Rodrigo y Gabriela (going to see them next month though, can’t wait)
Chemical Brothers
Shpongle (in the 17 years they’ve been around they’ve only played 14 live shows, I’ve been to two but they were both so amazing I’d love to see them again.)
Sonambulo (they evidently put on a lot of free shows on the beaches in Costa Rica. What an amazing concert that must be)
Above all else though, I want to see Daft Punk , I’d sell a friggin kidney to go to that show :P
@bookish1 I got to meet the guys from Crystal Method at Alex Grey’s house. They performed a pretty awesome set later that night too. (something about being able to say ya raved with Alex Grey in his house is just all kinds of awesome :P)
I was fortunate to have seen many of my favorite performers and a few bands I really cared about. I’m of an earlier generation, so some of these names may not be familiar to younger jellies.
Sinatra
Bennett
Torme
Rolling Stones (opened by Tina Turner)
Pat Metheny
Ella Fitzgerald
Rosemary Clooney
The Mills Brothers
Manhattan Transfer
Joel Grey
Paul McCartney & Wings
Of course, I would have loved to see the Beatles, but from everything I’ve read, it was impossible to hear them with over the audience.
I’d love to see Yes and they’re touring Canada but we miss them everywhere we go, they’re playing after we leave. We could see Justin Bieber… so disappointed! I was hoping we could go to a concert over there.
You canucks are such sweeties aren’t you. Been emailing some lovely Canadians.
Okay, bedtime.. nite nite.
I think I’m the youngest answering and have an extremely different taste in music. lol I like R&B and hip hop
It was Beyonce. She was the only one on my bucket list. Made it my mission at the beginning of the year to go to a concert and sure enough she announced a tour a month later. Saw her front row last week and ended up on her website. My life is complete lol.
@uberbatman : Wow, that is super cool :D How did you learn the secret handshake to get in?? I saw Shpongle once in Baltimore. The machine elves almost took me away. Had no idea they’ve only played 14 live shows!!!
@bookish1 You saw a Simon Posford DJ set in Baltimore, what I mean is I saw the full live thing with the cellos, violins, hang drums, etc etc. I’ve seen Simon Posford a couple times and while it’s an amazing show it can’t even come close to comparing.
When I was at the Shpongle show in NY I saw Alex Grey while waiting outside in line, being a huge fan of his work I had to say hello and shake his hand. He mentioned they have a gathering at their house every full moon. The next one coming up was on 11–11-11 so it was as he put it, a day of oneness. The events are completely open to the public and if you ever find yourself in the NY area I’d totally suggest you go. Amazing house with amazing sculptures and painting everywhere and Alex and Allyson are both such down to earth nice people. You can find more information about events here
Also, CSN. Even if they’re old and puffy. ;-)
Southern Cross
Would to have seen Grateful Dead with Jerry.
Ohhh forgot one above I’d LOVE to see Talking Heads but unfortunately that will never happen so best I can hope for is a chance to see Byrne
I’d like to see Leonard Cohen, but his concerts are so expensive :(
Jorge Drexler.
I’ve seen Bob Dylan, but would like to see him again.
@tups How was Bob Dylan? My g/f has seen him a few times. Once he sounded decent, the other time..not so decent. haha
@Mama_Cakes I’ve seen him twice. I think he was great considering he’s been touring for 50 years. His voice is rough and deep and certainly not for everyone, but if you are a committed Bob Dylan lover like me, you’ll love it. His songs do not sound like they do on records, sometimes they are almost hard to recognize. But I loved it because it was Bob Dylan.
@tups My partner is a big fan. In fact, she’d like to open up an antique/coffee/art shop up in Northern Michigan called “The Jack of Hearts”.
He toured not long ago with Mark Knofler. Bummer that I missed it.
@Mama_Cakes That sounds like a cool idea! Maybe he was bad when she saw him, then. I thought he was great, but I’m sure some people would have said otherwise. Just don’t expect him to be the same Bob Dylan as he was 20–30 years ago.
I saw him with Mark Knopfler. He was great too. :-)
To appease my partner, I’d go with her to see every cheesy hairband (Slayer, Motley Crue,) that she’d want to see . Also, Maiden, Megadeath, Judas Priest, Pantera, and Anthrax.
I would mind seeing Jack White again.
I would love to see Alanis Morrisette, or Beyonce.
I go to a lot of shows, but I’ve never seen either David Bowie or the Foo Fighters, and they are definitely on my list. I can’t think of anyone else I’m pining to see that I’ve never seen play before… though I want very much to see Elvis Costello again, and there are plenty of artists I’ve seen multiple times that I’ll see again when there’s an opportunity, like Aimee Mann or The Decemberists.
I did, and I’ve already seen all of them save for George Harrison and John Lennon.
I’ve seen:
Paul McCartney (with Linda)
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (all 4 together, and separately)
John Phillips (from The Mama’s and Papas)
The Monkees (all 4 at the same time, and each of them separately)
The Byrds (except for Michael Clarke, who had already passed away, and each of them separately and with their other bands)
U2
The Beach Boys (except for Dennis, who had already passed away)
As you can tell, I love all of that 60’s era stuff.
@uberbatman Seeing David Byrne is great, and really, he covers all the Talking Heads songs anyway. Saw him at Davies Hall in San Francisco, one of the best ever shows I’ve been to. He is on tour now, get tickets if he is anywhere near you.
Seen U2
Would like to see David Gray.
Crowded House – Kiwi band. I had tickets and someone announced their wedding was on the same day. After much contemplation – I relented and went to the wedding and sold my tickets.
Not a fan of U2, but I do like Crowded House. Brings me back to my high school years.
Awww… David Byrne would be awesome! I don’t even expect the opportunity to arise, though.
@Bellatrix I saw David Gray! I actually wept when he sang Sail Away. That was a very emotional show.
@zenvelo shitttt he just played in my area last month :( wish I saw that sooner…
@Kardamom Don’t you just love the way David Gray bobs his head while he sings? It’s almost endearing.
I love David Gray’s stuff. Not all artists come to Australia. The costs of bringing over sets and the like and then the long distances between cities make it cost prohibitive I think. So some bands don’t come or don’t come often. Or they’ll only go to a couple of cities so you have to travel and pay for airfares and hotels to see them.
Sting came over a few years ago and did his mainstream solo stuff (rather than the lute stuff) and only played Perth. It would have cost me over $1200 before I bought the tickets.
