Ryan Adams’ version of Wonderwall. Originally done by Oasis.
Ooooh @Brian1946 I love Johnny Winter’s I’ve got news for you.
Some great covers here. Thanks.
^^^ Way up there. It’s Edgar not Johnny. I can’t find a YouTube clip though.
Doctor & the Medics Spirit in the Sky
I’m sure there’s better examples, but that one immediately sprang to mind, cool video too.
About half of the songs from Glee.
Speaking of the Isleys, Bellatrix, if you haven’t heard it, you might want to check out their cover of Stephen Stills’ “Love The One You’re With”
Am I the only one in this thread who likes music less than 40 years old? I feel out of place.
Any cover of a Bruce Springsteen or Bob Dylan song is better than the original… I can not stand their voices.
There are plenty of tunes way less than 40yrs old here, mine included.
Ditto on Dylan. He’s a superb writer of songs but should never been allowed within ten feet of a microphone :)
Even the recently popular song “Wagon Wheel” owes its genesis to Dylan who came up with it years ago while playing a bit part in a western.
The lead singer from “Old Crow Medicine Show” heard it on a bootleg when he was a teenager and fleshed out the lyrics.
But I still prefer Darius Rucker’s cover because the OCMS version is so much more “nasally” for lack of a better word.
I heard an acoustic version of the Beatles song “Rain”, sung slowly by a woman. It was breathtakingly beautiful, and revealed how lovely a song it is. I never cared much for the Beatles version.
I wouldn’t say I love it more but I certainly love Rod Stewart’s version of Windy Town as much as Chris Rea’s.
Not normally a fan of a cappella but this boy can sing (same song).
Too many to mention! Probably my favourite cover is The Breeders’ version of Wicked Little Town.
But I’d also include Rufus Wainwright’s version of Hallelujah and Punch Brothers’ cover of just about anything… I’ll leave Reptilia, and what the heck, Tex Ritter’s Rye Whisky for good measure.
Okay… while I’m on a bluegrass kick, here’s Sarah Jarosz doing Radiohead’s The Tourist.
Tony Lucca’s version of Devil Town, The Pretenders version of Stop Your Sobbing, Cake’s version of i Will Survive, and almost any cover by Smiles From the Trenches.
@Kardamom You wouldn’t happen to be a fan of Glee by chance would you? :P
@uberbatman I got sucked into that show, the first second I watched it. They really do great versions of songs, and it turns out that the Friday song is actually a catchy tune, when sung by decent singers LOL. Chris Colfer’s voice actually gives me ear-gasms!
Still in mourning over the death of Cory Monteith
Just like to say, nothing beats New Order’s Blue Monday…nothing!
“Up On the Roof” by James Taylor. The Drifters version is classic and timeless, but Taylor rearranged the song, added his tenor voice, and gave it a new sweetness.
James Taylor’s son Ben did a nice cover of the Beatles’ “I Will”.
(and as you may know, he sounds just like his father…)
@OneBadApple I saw Ben in concert on Martha’s Vineyard, with his Mom singing backup. It was a great night. And, yes, Ben does sound exactly like his father!
^ How could I have forgotten that one?
Run DMC/Beastie Boys was my very first concert.
