Rich, Richie, Rick, Ricky
John to Jack is the most stupid nickname I’ve ever heard.
@livelaughlove21 The shortening of the names make sense. Very strange how people get from to there. I can see Ricardo becoming Ricky.
My step-dad’s name is Ricky. It’s on his birth certificate and that’s what we call him. If you’re going to call a child by a different name, just name them that! For instance, my husband’s name is Joshua, and I’m pretty damn sure no one had any intention of ever calling him that. He’s Josh. No need to fancy it up.
Then again, I have a strange dislike for nicknames in general, so I may be alone here.
I grew up with a close friend named Richard, who didn’t happen to be a Dick like Richard Nixon was. We just called him Richard. He answered to it just fine.
My dad is a Rick/Richard. That’s much more common than Dick, these days.
Very rarely do you see a dick these days.
Or is it just me? lol
My name is Henri (the french spelling) and I think the nicknames for Henry are the funniest. I mean Hank and Harry? Really?
I wonder how Bill became the nickname for William? Will makes sense, but I don’t understand the jump to Bill.
Dick Cheney actually is one.
I wonder if there is a site with a collection of these crazy changes in names?
People who are very close or intimate to the person, alright to shorten it if the person is okay with it, but the rest of the public? Very strangw practice.
I’ve never understood the Peggy/Margaret connection.
I didn’t even know about Peggy/Margaret.
My sister’s name is Margaret. You should see what happens when somebody calls her Peggy. lol
@katniss There are so many nicknames for Margaret, why would anyone presume Peggy?
Maggie, Madge, Midge, Marge, Margie, Margo, Meg, Peggy, Maisie, Mamie, Molly, etc.
Same thing for Elizabeth. People impose Liz on all my Elizabeth friends, but they might be Beth, Betsy, Bess, Bessie, Betty, Elie, Eliza, Ella, Ellie, Elsie, Elza, Libby, Libba, Liddy, Lili, Lisbeth, Liza, etc., etc.
@SadieMartinPaul I called her Peggy because I was an evil bitch and I knew it pissed her off. lol
@Katniss I hope you and Margaret have a better relationship these days. :-)
