Do you have a love/hate relationship with nicotine?

Asked by Drush545 (229points) July 17th, 2013

I am 28 and have been smoking and dipping since I was about 17. I love the way it makes me feel when its been a few days and I light one up or put a dip in. However, I hate how it effects my health in only negative ways. I normally do not get a buzz unless I wait several hours either. Anyone else notice this?

I have one with caffeine. For about 15 years I have been caffeine free the majority of the time, but when I cheat I love it, I especially love my old drink of choice coca cola. But, the negative side effects of the caffeine isn’t worth it for me. Sometimes I ignore the negatives and still cheat. Sometimes I regret it, sometimes I don’t. I do think it is better not to constantly put the body theough withdrawal. Nicotine is so addictive, if there is any way you can quit completely I think you should.

Another vote for hate/hate.

You smoke and dip? I don’t get it. Why not one or the other?

Nope – gave it up about 25 years ago and never looked back.

Started when I was 18, stopped it when I was 24. Trust me man, you see yourself in a whole new light when you stopped. For me you feel at an advanced level over the ones who smoke. You will smell much cleaner and you will focus more.

Kind of. I like a cigarette or two with a couple of beers once in a while. But I hate the lingering smell.

I have had a love/hate relationship with nocitine for many years. But it was a bad relationship. Nicotine would regularly demand money off me and never paid it back. It lied constantly about how it would make me feel better if I just spent a little more time with it. So last year I kicked it out, changed the locks and I’m not letting it back in no matter how much it begs.
