Legally, shouldn't the money from crowd sourcing be returned to the donors?

Asked by flo (13313points) July 18th, 2013

One of the folks who tried but failed to get x amount decided to give the money to charity. But what if the donor/s are against the charity/charities?

Last I checked, if the goal isn’t reached, the donors don’t get their money taken; no debits or credit card charges. Now, maybe different crowd-sourcing places work differently, but all of the crowd-source stuff I’ve done (especially Kickstarter) operates like that.

I guess it pays to go through reputable channels.
