Mine are useful all the time. Examples: pulling up tape; scratching; peeling dead skin from healing scabs; picking up coins; pulling off labels; undoing knots. How do you do those things if you don’t use your nails?

Picking ticks off Milo, removing the occasional chinny-chin chin hair, untying shoelaces, flicking Japanese beetles off rose bushes…
Picking scabs. Picking hard skin off my feet. Scratching.
Opening my pocket knife, peeling sticky labels off stuff, scratching me and my cat, and sometimes for biting when I’m stressed.
