The back arrow skipped the Google seach result page, how do I get it?

Asked by flo (13313points) July 25th, 2013

I was reading an article that I got from my google search results. I needed to go back and look for another article. But unusually, clicking the back arrow gets me to Google home page, (blank search box) instead of the results page. Is it necessary to do the search again is there another way of getting to it?

If you’re still at the Google home page, you should be able to click on a ‘forward arrow’ to go one page forward. In Firefox, the forward arrow pops up just to the right of the back arrow, only when you can actually use it. If it isn’t there, you could look at your history and see if you can find the page you want there.

Have you tried hitting the forward arrow? Sometimes I accidentally double-click and pass the page I was looking for.

Also, I have Google preferences set to open results in a new tab so that the search pages stays open.

Using Safari as my browser, I can simply click on History (in the very top menu bar) and click on what I want from the drop-down menu.

What @gailcalled said. Every browser I am aware of has a history review available from its control button or toolbar.

… unless one’s browser is on the private or incognito setting – the history is not stored.

It was a public computer by the way, (about the history) I forgot to mention

Also the forward arrow was grey.
Thank you.

Thanks everytime? Should Ctrl-H work everytime?

Should Ctrl-H work everytime?

On a public or shared computer, right-click on the link you want to open and choose to open in a new tab or a new window, so your search page will remain.
