Are you thankful for where and how you live?
I heard just recently of the situation in Russia. Living conditions poor, water undrinkable, no pensions, people leaving this country especially the young ones leaving older ones there to live out their lives. It makes me happy to live in Canada where we have a pension plan available, welfare, unemployment, clean air, clean environment, seniors apartment complexes, etc. In Russia the smog is horrendous in some areas.

I live in upstate NY, in a very clean and smog free part of the world. All I can see out my windows are trees. The assholes in the Ohio Valley could stop sending us their mercury and acid rain from their power plants. But for the most part I like where I live. Plus I’m close to my namesake.
Yes. There is definitely room for improvement, but I am very happy to live in Florida where the climate makes me very happy and I can see the blue waters of the gulf (although I prefer the Atlantic, which isn’t very far away) and the skies are blue most of the time with some humidity in the air. Overall I feel safe, which is very important to me. I feel free. I have a major airport near me so I can get many places nonstop.
Well throw our climate in our faces you snow fearing wuss. When was the last time you saw a moose?
Nope.
I’m here 100% against my will, and if I had the financial means to do so I’d take my family and bugger off as fast as my feet could carry me.
Yes. Our house needs some repairs, but nothing drastic. I look out the window and see trees – as long as I don’t look left or right! But even then, the houses next to us aren’t that close. Our water is clean and safe and we’re not far from things to do.
And to demonstrate the subjectivity of this question, I live about 40 minutes away from @JLeslie.
I love where I live now. It is a wonderful, eclectic, lively neighborhood, and we have a cute little house.
@JLeslie I’m just having fun. This past weekend I stopped to chase a fawn, covered in spots still off the side of a busy road. I had my s/o get out to do it, because it wasn’t scared. There were three of them. They let her walk right up to them.
I find the fawns aren’t afraid. It seems like their mamas need to teach them to be scared. They are born when hunting season is not happening, so they are basically safe. Not that they would be unsafe in hunting season, most states don’t allow hunters to kill fawn. Deer are so dumb, even the adults, they don’t understand roads and cars at all.
@JLeslie Yeah, it’s nice being around wildlife. The young have no fear. It’s too bad they have to acquire it.
Pffft! Not anymore.
I lost my home of 7 years on an idyllic 5 acre property last March. Oh how I loved it there. Now I live in a small community on the edge of the local city.
It is alright, but pales in comparison to the years of bliss I in-joyed in my little Walden Pond setting, BUT…my goal now is to save, save, save, and perhaps move to Oregon in the next few years. I am a country girl at heart and do not like living with nosey neighbors, a huge adjustment after years of being able to wander around naked in the wilderness.
Now I have the little old lady next door spying on me. Gah!
She calls and says “Did you know your cat is out?” Fuck..YES, I KNOW! lol
I’m very happy living on a farm with no immediate neighbors and we can see for miles in every direction. My husband’s drive to work is only 4 miles and the schools and shopping are only 3 miles from our home. There’s little crime, the schools are good and the community support is amazing. I love the 4 seasons of the Midwest and the various outdoor activities available to us. I’m very thankful.
@jonsblond Can I set up a Yurt on your farm? I;ll cook and do farm chores, and we can have happy brownie hour at sunset. lol
I just reread the original question and supporting info and realized the OP might have been only talking about the country we live in, and not the specific locale. As far as America goes, I am grateful to live in such a large country with so many different climates, mountains, prairies, oceans, lakes, forests, I can see so much beauty and not have to leave my country where I feel safe and comfortable. However, sometimes I think Australia is sounding really good economically and it would be nice to get away from the crazy political crap here.
@Coloma Sorry about your misfortunes. :(. You did make me laugh with your neighbor story though.
I am thankful whenever I get a whole bucket of KFC to myself, I still complain from time to time, but its just because I constantly see more and I have to compete for a mate is harder and harder to do seeing someone next door has a job/car/house better than what I can provide for a mate to build a nest together.
I am happy that I have the means to support myself.
I live in one of the best places in the world – the San Francisco Bay Area. And I am employed. Yes, I am regularly grateful.
Every time I travel away from my home I am extremely happy to get back to it. I love living in Canada.
Yes, I am really thankful for where and how I live. We don’t have much money, but we have a peaceful life. We have tears but we do have laughter.
