Is anyone else experiencing record cold temperatures for the month of July?

Asked by jonsblond (44316points) July 27th, 2013

It’s 69°F here in western Illinois and I don’t think it’s going to get any warmer today. We are expecting a near all time record cold for the month of July this evening of 50°F.

I’m loving this weather! call me crazy We haven’t had to use the air conditioner all week.

Is anyone else enjoying this weather or are you missing the heat of the summer?

In California we are experiencing record hot temperatures over a record number of days, so NO.

janbb's avatar

Nope – we’ve been hot and heavy.

ucme's avatar

No, quite the opposite, record month long heatwave over here in england town.

ragingloli's avatar

No, it is the hottest weekend of the year so far.

We were having a heat wave, but it’s been very pleasant and in the low to mid 80s the past couple of days. Last year on this date it was 100 so I am happy.

Yep! Record cold this morning! I had a lovely walk this afternoon in the 70 degree weather!

No, our month of July has set heat records with terrible heat and humidity, which caused violent storms with tornado watches and warnings last week. Fuck this heat.

We had a couple of weeks of ridiculous heat (over 100F with humidex), then last week it dropped to under 50F, which is very uncharacteristic of our summers. I enjoyed being able to use blankets for a night or two before the heat returns.

Yes! After a rainstorm last night, out temp plunged to a chilly 94 today.

We’ve had several weeks of above 90 degree temperatures, of course mixed in with the higher humidity, in the mid-Atlantic region. The cooler weather is a nice relief, and to the radio broadcasters and exhibitionists who don’t have to work in the heat, and whom are complaining that’s it’s too chilly (at 78 degrees) I guess that’s just too bad. I can’t wait for October.

It’s been a warm and sunny July. It reached a high of 84F but is now peaking at around 67F in the late afternoon which is perfect. It is a bit too warm at night.

@YARNLADY In California we are experiencing record hot temperatures over a record number of days, so NO. Where are you at? We are getting gypped here. It hasn’t been summer less ONE WEEK. I have had to don a jacket or sweater 5 mornings out of 7.

@Hypocrisy_Central Hey, you can look on the bright side, at least the chicken flap back arms are being covered. ;)

TinyChi's avatar

Nah, we’re just getting the usual. It’s been a real wet summer though so that’s cool, it’s better than having wildfires breaking out and stuff. I never had a chance to go camping so that sucks.

I don’t think so, it has been very reasonable temps for the Tampa, FL area for mid summer. Usually in the 80’s during the day and 70’s at night. I think that is pretty average. We hit low 90’s some days.

I know the northeast was having a heat wave a couple weeks ago, I don’t know if it let up.

I remember being at Putnam raceway in Indiana once during July a few years ago and it was so cold. It’s about 45 minutes west of Indianpolis. Other summers it has been sweltering hot there the same time of year.

livelaughlove21's avatar

Nope. Hot and muggy, with enough rain that you might think you’re in Seattle instead of South Carolina. It sucks.

I’d still have my A/C on if it was 69 degrees outside. Our house is never hotter than 70 degrees.

jonsblond's avatar

Now our forecast is calling for 48F. I might need to turn on a space heater!

5.5 ºF (3.05 ºC) warmer than normal for the month of July here so far. Thanks be that the oppressive heat and humidity finally broke this weekend. It was a nice balmy 88 ºF (31.11 ºC) instead of last weak’s peak of 101 ºF (38.33 ºC) and nearly 100% relative humidity. That wouldn’t be all that much relief, but the air was also drier today.

It’s been hot as satans toenails in Alaska!

Mama_Cakes's avatar

@jonsblond I have my window open and a coolish breeze is drifting on by. Perfect for sleeping. It feels like Fall!

@AshLeigh A record 200 ships received permission to use the Arctic Passageway this summer. That’s 4 times the number ever to use it in the past. Until recently, there WAS no Arctic passage.

Not record cold temperatures, but here in Memphis, this week’s temperatures have been 5 F. degrees lower than the average for the same time frame. While still hot, it’s been quite enjoyable.

About 5 days ago, here in southern NY, we had temps around 60–65 but I don’t know if that was record cold. It was weird during the day and everyone said they like it for saving on AC bills, and some said they were fighting the urge to put the heat on.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Coldest since 1888 here in Missouri. Cool this week, too. I put a quilt on the bed today & I have sweats on lol

Mama_Cakes's avatar

So cold here, I’m about to have a hot bath to warm up. :)

I have actually more of a “mini keg” going. No matter what I do I can’t beat the “mid-life spread”. I guess I must be content enough to have it because other than walking and cycling most everywhere, I don’t hit the gym. ;-P

I am experiencing extremely hot days and I miss those cool days very much. What’s more, my father works in high-temperature environment. I think he need a cooling vest urgently. http://www.cosafety360.com/product-742.html I find the working clothing, hoping it can work well.

ETpro's avatar

@wendyzhu I hope your dad is OK. We’re finally getting a cool evening here and it’s delightful. I’m sure it’s coming to where you are as well. And welcome to Fluther.

Extreme weather conditions in all directions become more frequent due to climate change.

@ETpro Thank you very much! I agree with you.
