Why would my ex be stopped by cops in Colorado?

Asked by Aster (20028points) July 28th, 2013

Ran into my ex last night at a party. He and his GF were in his new Mercedes RV in Colorado and were stopped by police . They asked if they could search the vehicle, they did then left. Why do you think they were stopped? He said something about the new marijuana laws causing this; not sure how he said it. He has a Texas license plate.

In high school my American Government teacher used to joke that a Grateful Dead sticker is probable cause. This is sadly true. The ex could have been acting weird (in the pigs eyes) and that would be enough.

He was just driving down the highway, not speeding, and was pulled over.

They could be looking for someone in a particular make or model car and stopping any car that matches the description.

Just like some activists and protesters in general, the police, sometimes institutionally and sometimes singly or in pairs, like to test the limits of “what can we / I get away with?” So when they stop a motorist for no apparent reason (or none that they want to disclose, anyway, or are required to disclose by a motorist asserting his right to know, “Why did you pull me over?”) and ask for permission to search, again for no particular reason, and are then not told, “Go to hell! No, you may not search without a warrant!”, they’ve moved the bounds a bit more in their favor.

When motorists are asked for permission to search the vehicle, the correct response is, “No, you may not search me or my possessions without a warrant.” But people forget, they don’t know, or sometimes they’re afraid to say, “No” ... and we’re all a little less free because of that.

Do you know that is when they will smell weed in your car search it anyway? If they want to search it they will and there isn’t a thing you can do. One of the cops saying they smell weed is enough, even if none is found. It simply wore off by the time you got them to the station to be booked. You can’t win.

Yes; now I remember my ex said, “when they asked if we could search the RV I said, “sure” because , if I said no, they’d probably take us in or get a warrant. He said. She had to stand in the back and he stayed in the front by their orders . Then it was goodbye to the officers.

Is he white?

Drug trafficking from Mexico to Colorado would come to mind. Did they use a dog to do the search? Drug lords can afford a million dollar RV to transport the drugs, Cocaine and heroin are still transported for profit..

Boy it would depend upon my mood and urgency to get where I was going. If I did agree to the search, it would definitely be under official protest and my handi-cam would record the entire incident. I’d then file a complaint to the department and CC the Attorney General of that state. Youtube is rife with bad cop illegal searches. They also hate being filmed and when often tell people to put cameras away. They have no right to do that.

Not liking where this is headed. Where is all the freedom going?

I cannot leave a tyrannical state for my children to suffer.

Some cops (...most cops, if not all IMO) are just assholes like that. I was pulled over a few weeks ago because my tags were exprired by less than 1 week, they were completely paid for I was only waiting for them to arrive in the mail. He wanted to search my car and I told him I would not consent, he claimed that my tags being expired have him probable cause (a huge lie). He made me sit on the curb while he searched the car, only to find…..not a god damn thing. He tried to search the trunk but couldn’t figure out how to open it after he accidentally locked it, I asked if he was having issues and he told me I free to go.
I hate cops.

I’ve been pulled over and all the officer said was “Are you tired? Are you sure? Just making sure. A lot of people drive through here really drowsy.” “No, sir, it’s 1 PM and I feel great.” Fuck that. Cops like to harass people and know most folks are too afraid to object to a search, or whatever. So probably the cop just felt like it and knew he could use weed laws as an excuse. What a shame.

They figure either you’re too afraid to deny the search or if you do deny them access you must be hiding something.

Every so often the police over here will do random breath tests to make sure people aren’t drunk behind the wheel. Even if drivers aren’t acting suspiciously it keeps them on their toes if the police do random checks every so often. Not saying it’s right or wrong but I am certainly not surprised when I hear of people being pulled over for no obviousl reason. May be your ex was just another randomer that the police decided to check that night just in case?!
