There really is no new news under the sun. I’d say one of the most striking features of the 20 something crowd is there is much more of a sense of equality between the sexes and many are opting out of reproducing offspring. I support that entirely. My daughter is almost 26 and has much more confidence in herself than I did at the same age. She has no desire to marry or bring forth babies and wants a truly equal partnership.
My generation still mostly opted for marriage and babies.
Uh, which one? Those under 20? Those 20 – 35? 35 – 50? or over 50?
I love young people. They make me feel really hopeful. they tend to be more accepting of others without regard to race, religion, or sexual orientation. they care about the environment.
I would call it the online-generation. Most people have a a smartphone in their pocket, always only one click away from everything between a person in Tokyo or Mexico City and pictures of everybody’s dinner today. Sitting on a bus, people are wind up in their smartphones. Not many watch the landscape go by. You have to be online if you want to be a part of society. I only have books and stories about the good old days to compare with, but I have a feeling that some of the mystery has gone. But what do I know, I am only 19.
Sharp-minded though a little lost on values!
I think this is incredibly subjected. The current generation in southern California is surely different than the current generation in New Mexico, versus Vancouver, versus Sudan. And southern California can be divided even further because the current generation in suburban Pasadena is going to have a different flavour than those in my town. Different populations, values, etc.
In general, I think the generation in my area is misguided. This generation as a whole, though? I’m not sure. I want to say that I am a bit more optimistic about the way things can turn.
Responsible, hard working and serious. Just like our parents.
^^^^ And that’s the problem with this world! The work ethic is too hardcore, everyone creating an identity out of what they DO, rather than WHO they ARE!
I guess it’s the 70;s girl in me, but I fucking HATE what it takes to survive in the “modern” world.
A “job” equals slavery…enjoyable “work” equals fulfillment
As a “boomer” I can say that I truly beleive the demise of love and family is indicitive of what it takes to subsist in this society.
When people have to have 2 incomes and work 60 hours a week to afford the basics, well…let’s just cry “BULLSHIT!”
I adhere to the Buddhist philosophy that 6 hours of work a day is more than enough to keep the balance.
They have a sense of enlitlement.
They expect a lot from parents, employers etc for minimal output.
Gadget focused versus looking out the window or talking to people when riding trains.
