(NSFW) Can a reverse V-Chip be designed to root out G and PG rated material?

Asked by talljasperman (21919points) July 31st, 2013

For all channels. A V-chip is a device that parents use to protect children from adult content. I would like to know if I can get a tv that can be set to show only adult content?

Theoretically or actually?

Theoretically, the V-Chip is just software that has been baked onto an integrated circuit. And because it’s software, it can be changed, re-compiled, and re-baked onto the silicon. So in an absolute sense, yes.

However, it’s not like you can do it yourself. That software exists somewhere and is likely to be completely tied to the TV set’s other chips (tuner, etc.). Which means that you would have to get the software, make the changes, create the chip and install it, all while keeping the TV set working normally in all other ways. That would be the tricky part. Compatibility.

But the answer is YES. All the V=-chip does it look for a particular signal encoded in the datastream. Technically, having it look for MA or R or X is not any harder than looking for G or PG.

Great.
Yet another question to answer at Sears.
Black case or silver?
Two or four external ports?
With or without the HDMI cable?
Want the extended warranty?
Mounting bracket?
Family friendly or adult?

@Blueroses If buying a TV is a bitch nowadays, videogames are just a nightmare. I miss the simpler times of Mario Kart (SNES and N64).

Yeah, we should all call up Sears and ask if they have the new X-chip with the pervo-only media feature.
