Asked before but worth asking again. I finally learned how to spell Connecticut! (Thank you, @CWOTUS!) Now to remember it.

Deer eat morning glory leaves. (Seeds sent by @coloma across country, planted and nurtured for weeks. The vine was over six feet high and setting buds. I came out this morning and found only the stalk, looking like a twisted green wire.)
BSC is not a medical term. When the docs in my office spoke of someone being BSC, I assumed it was a medical condition. Nope. It means Bat Shit Crazy.
To figure out the dimensions of a guardrail for a 12×23 seed bin you use a radius of 69” instead of 72”.
A good friend is pregnant! I’m so happy for her!
Guy Fieri is a shitty chef. As well as everyone else on the Food Network.
That I can re-heat homemade burger’s in the microwave better than fast food with the dressings.
The Amber Alert is sent through every cell phone in the state of California.
A writer can ask for help if he/she’s stuck in the middle of his/her stories (reference to my latest question here )
That getting over to the U.S. (to live) is going to take longer than I thought. Not happy, but will have to deal.
25 percent of American kids age two and under have their own smartphone. O.O
@gailcalled (&$%#$^&_+&!!!!!)*
I am sorry! Happens to me too. The damn deer just ate one of my lemon cucumber vines that came through the garden fence and over the years, I too, have suffered the trauma of my morning glory vines being pillaged in the night. Grrr!
Well..never fear, I have plenty more seeds and mine are blooming like crazy right now, heh..bet I just jinxed myself. Just saw 2 does and thei fawns wandering by.
What have I learned today?
This!
www.tumbleweedhouses.com I want one NOW!!! :-)
How good it feels to let someone else cut ahead in the grocery line.
According to a recent study, 72% of people will believe anything preceded by “according to a recent study”.
I learned that there are two kinds of allergies and its fairly easy to test for them. Doctors usually only test for one kind (the ones that give you a rash or effect breathing) but the other kind is also easy to test for. I wish I remembered the technical terms. I learned that its really rare for doctors to test for the second kind for some reason. I’m looking forward to getting the simple blood test and learning if my icky feelings when I eat a variety of foods is related to allergies.
@YARNLADY That alert seriously freaked me out last night! I’m not going to disable it just in case it can do some future good, but I was totally caught off guard by the noise.
Earlier today, I was reading a textbook on the variations of the Persephone myth and I was not aware that there were so many nuances to it! Zeus’s involvement, Demeter’s response to her daughter’s rape, Persephone’s demeanor and culpability all vary from text to text. It’s fascinating stuff and has given me a lot to consider for my research.
Learned that New Orleans was a French state. Did not know that until today. Some homeless guy told me. Well I probably learned that in school yoinks ago, but apparently, I had forgotten.
I learned that pigeons bob their heads whilst walking because they’re counting the cars they just shat on.
@jonsblond Don’t lose heart… it’s possible that they only had responses from 4 parents of 2-year olds, and that only one of those gave their kid a smartphone. It’s an awful survey – I wouldn’t put too much stock in it.
Their sample size was 1020 people, and less than one percent (i.e., less than 10 people) said they felt comfortable giving a smartphone to a child under 4.
I know my toddler grandson was fascinated with cellphones when he was about 2 and I sometimes let him have mine to play with but of course, he didn’t know how to use it.
My grand kids have iPods. I wonder if they were counting those. They call them their phones.
@glacial haha. I’m not putting any stock in the survey. I really didn’t learn anything new yesterday, but I wanted to participate in the thread so I looked at my facebook and found the first thing with any type of facts or numbers from a survey and I posted it. I should have scrolled down a little further and found something from National Geographic if everyone was going to be so serious about it here. geez :)
Today I learned that the rabies vaccine, most likely, gives lifelong immunity, according to my vet, but…because the virus is so deadly to humans the law mandates that the vaccine be administered after the initial vaccine, every 3 years.
Pffft!
My shelter cat is 7 now and most likely did not need it, but…the law is the law. I do live in a major wildlife area and he goes out wandering, but….freaking overkill on the vaccines.
The 3 year shot can cause sarcoma at the injection site, sooo…they now give it in the led rather than the neck/shoulder, so in the event of a vaccine induced tumor the animals limb can be amputated. great!
Do NOT let your animal get the vaccine in the neck/shoulder area!
Today I learned what happens when I leave a fish in the microwave too long. It explodes. Thank goodness it was in a proper, lidded container.
