What do you use to remember what to do?

Asked by naoya8lev (7points) August 7th, 2013

These days, I often have too many tasks.
So, I tend to forget some tasks.
Please tell me how you manage this.

I make lists by writing items on paper with a pen.

I like to put notes to myself around the house in places I will definitely see: on the TV, computer, biscuit cupboard, front door, places I visit most. It helps me to write proper notes, not just a list but something like “Morning greenbean3! I left the paint and brushes in the shed, if you could finish that Bench outside that would be great. Also, there is a leftover chicken in the fridge, you couldn’t do something with it could you? Don’t forget to pick up your prescription and buy Lentils. Thanks a lot”
I write a lot on my hands as well, and use my phone to plan appointments and deadlines. If it’s something important that I know I will most likely forget, I tell a friend and they send me a quick text or something to remind me.

I have magnets on the refrigerator to hold notes, all appointments go on the calendar, and sticky notes on doors and my computer table. I keep note pads by every telephone and in my purse. One of my favorite gifts from my grandsons last year was a tiny notebook with a tiny pencil attached for my purse.

I also make lists… I may not get the stuff done, but it’s not because of forgetting, at least. And I use the alarm on my cellphone for a few tasks, mostly remembering to give my dogs their meds when it’s time. I also will put stuff where I won’t forget, for example I need to order some meds online so I put the prescription on my keyboard.

I have seven pairs of underpants that I never wear, they’re hung up on the wall in a banner style & they each have a day of the week embossed across the gusset, monday thru sunday.
Makes for a handy calendar type thing, my wife confronted me about this unusual arrangement, but it was only a brief encounter…ha, no flies on me ;-}

We set reminders on our phones – either with the calendar application or task manager application.

I use a GTD (get things done) app on my computer called Things. Its very simpleto use and It also syncs up to my iPad and iPhone.

I think there are other compatible apps like omni focus and remember the milk.

I use my phone calendar quite a bit. I also make lists, especially when I’m trying to juggle work for five classes.

Do like I did. Get a wife.

Sticky notes and my iPhone calendar. Couldn’t survive without ‘em.

I send text messages to my email. When I get home and have free time I check my email and it reminds me of a lot of things I would have otherwise forgotten.

If I need to take something along the next time I go out, I put it in front of the door so I have to trip over it to get out.
I make lists incessantly. Sometimes, I lose the list. It’s infuriating.

I’m a list person. I was recently promoted to supervisor in my department at work and have three clipboards, plus a spiral notebook, to keep my shit straight and my sanity intact.

I’ve recently developed a way of reminding myself of things I need to do, I send myself e-mails, the subject line is the message, it works a treat.

Lists, post it notes, white board, and calendars on the fridge for remembering dates and appointments and events.

For remembering where everyday necessary items are located. Put a bowl or basket on a table or shelf (that you can hang just for this purpose) near the door that you use to go out of the house. This is good for keys, cell phone, glasses, and sunglasses. Always put those items right back into the basket when you get back home, so that they’re always in the same place.

For things that you need to do after work. Put a post it note on your dashboard or passenger’s seat (if no one is sitting there).

For odd items that you need to take with you to work or to the gym (or wherever else you might be going) that are not every day items, put those items on the floor or in a basket right in front of the door that you use to leave the house in the morning, but put them there the night before.

If you are supposed to be bringing something to your company potluck, leave your cooler on the kitchen counter (right next to the coffee cup you will use in the morning) so you won’t forget to take the salad/casserole/cheeseplatter/chili with you in the morning. Even if you open the fridge in the morning, to get the cream, unless you have a note or a big fat cooler sitting there in plain sight, you will not see the giant lasagna that you wife made the night before, because you’ll be too bleary eyed.

If someone invites you to an event (like a baby shower or a play or a ballgame) tell them to please phone you about 2 or 3 days before the event, again, so that you will not forget. Do this in addition to marking it on your calendar (even though your calendar might be currently on August, but the event is in September so you might not be looking at it).

If you are clacking away on Fluther, but you are supposed to leave to meet someone for dinner, take the wet clothes out of the washer in the garage, mow the lawn before it gets dark, put the meat in the crockpot 6 hours before your wife gets home, set a timer. The best ones are the old fashioned portable wind up ones (rather than the electronic ones on your stove or microwave) simply because they are portable, and only give you 60 minutes before they ring. Put it next to your computer. It will startle you back into reality very quickly.

I don’t have a Smart Phone, but apparently you can set up alarms for all sorts of things, so if you are at work and need to do certain tasks at certain times, you can set up your phone to alert you.
