If lard can do this to a sewer, just think of its effect on your blood vessels. Who knew?

Asked by elbanditoroso (33550points) August 7th, 2013

This is kind of gross to think about – a bus size lump of lard (15 ton) that had grown (accumulated) under the streets in Surrey, England.

How much time did it take to grow to that size?

How do you remove 15 tons of lard from a sewer? One tablespoon at a time?

Is lard recyclable?

Oh Lard, we thank you for your bountiful generosity…

So that’s what happened to Robert Maxwell.

Where did the lard come from? It doesn’t grow on it’s own. It’s inorganic.

This sounds like something out of Neverwhere.

If beer can do this to a town, imagine what it can do to your kidneys!

People still eat lard? :O

elbanditoroso's avatar

@LornaLove – no, but they cook in it.

LornaLove's avatar

@elbanditoroso That means they eat it.

Nothing wrong with it. It’s just pig fat rendered down. No worse than eating pork ribs. Our aversion is psychological. I mean, yeah, it’s not good to cook with fat but we do it anyway.

Oreos are mostly lard.

what the fuck did you think made them taste so good?

And those McD’s french fries of yore!

they were so much better then…

Hard to find suet anymore. More’s the pity.

If I’m not mistaken, lard is a trans-fat, which means at room temperature, it’s hard (unlike oil or butter, which, at room temperature, is not hard).

Dutchess_III's avatar

Are penises a transfat?

We find suet at the grocery store. Just ask the butcher.

I think I’m going to go looking for some lard and cook with it, see what happens!
