When is Rush released, the F1 film about James Hunt, and will you watch it?

Asked by Headhurts (4505points) August 7th, 2013

Looking forward to viewing it in the UK. I’m a big Formula 1 fan but sadly only took interest in it in 1998. I think the past drivers and history of the sport is fascinating, and enjoy watching the documentaries.
Is anyone here keen to watch?

Middle of September sometime & yes I plan on seeing it.
Ron Howard was on Top Gear recently & they showed a trailer of the film, looks great.
James Hunt was before my time watching the sport, but by all accounts, he was more like a rock star. Smoked in the pit lane, drank himself stupid & bedded hot girls…how times have changed.

What era was James Hunt? I’ve followed F1 for a long time and studied the history, but I’m not familiar with him.

His career spanned throughout the seventies & became world champion in 1976.
Niki Lauda was involved in a near fatal crash that same season at the Nurburgring & it’s their rivalry that the movie revolves around.

Okay. I remember Lauda, but not Hunt. I’ll have to do some research. Thanks much.

It’s going to be a great film. I recently watched the Hunt/Lauda documentary on the BBC, was so interesting. The drivers have such balls.

Yeah, safety back then was a joke. Loads of drivers were killed, hunt died of a heart attack when he was just 45. Maybe those crazy days eventually caught up with him.
He used to do commentary on all the Grand Prix with the legendary Murray Walker, loved their verbal sparring.

Probably not, F1 is not big in the US and so I have not developed much of an interest.

Yeah, coz no American can speed round a real track, just aimlessly go in circles.

@ucme Guess what this weekend is: The Glen.

I was referring to the majority of Nascar tracks as well as Indycars, one or two exceptions of course, not least Laguna Seca.
Not many Americans excel in F1, last one who did okay was Mario Andretti, mostly abject failures like Eddie Cheever.

I love road courses. I was a big Can Am, IMSA, and now Rolex fan. When they bulldozed Riverside I went into mourning. Most Americans don’t know how to drive or use their brakes properly, or set up corners, so I’m not surprised they’re not good in F1.
