Is it just me or has salt become less salty?

I’ve been using the same salt for years and it seems I have to add more than usual these days to achieve the same taste in my food. I thought it was just me but my husband and daughter both keep adding salt to my food even though I am still using the same amount.
Have manufactures reduced the amount of sodium in salt?
Or have our taste buds simply changed. It could be a summer thing. Dehydration makes us crave more salt to stay hydrated.

It’s you.
Sodium Choride is what it is. It is an act of nature. Your taste sense is variable based on age, state of physical and mental being, drugs you take etc.
Salt is NaCl. One molecule of each. Did you get sea salt possibly?
Are you having nasal polyp issues?
I had mine reamed out years ago and food suddenly tasted better.
If salt became “less” salty, it wouldn’t be salt. It’s you.
I’m the complete opposite. I used to add a ton of salt and now I add little, if any.
I think adding extra salt to food is a trickery for the taste buds.
It’s like adding extra salt dulls other flavours down. The more you add the more you get used to it as a flavour instead of the other beautiful flavours. The more you use the more you get sensitized to it. It seems to work that way. I barely ever use salt in anything, but if you give me a plain lays potato chip holy crap those are way too salty for me. :-C
@josie Sea salt is mostly NaCl but it also has some other salts mixed in. It’s a mix of stuff that leaches out of the soils and rocks.

I actually have cooked with very little salt for most of my life and my mom cooked with very little salt. So I usually have to tell people to add salt to their tastes. My daughter and husband had gotten use to it but now it seems my food needs more salt than usual.
@KaY_Jelly Actually like yourself, I find potato chips are way to salty. I can only have a few before I start to feel I ate a pillar of salt.
There is one thought. Maybe I have gradually been putting in less than what I use to put in and it seems like a lot now but is actually a little. Since I don’t measure and cook from memory.

It is known that if you like salt then you need a lot more salt to taste it. So if you eat things like fast food or processed foods, you are getting a lot of salt in your diet, and everything tastes bland until you add more.
Also, if you cut out as much salt as possible for a few weeks, and then eat something like McDonalds hamburgers or a canned soup, the salt can be almost overwhelming.
Have you changed brands?
Salt contains additives – iodine, anti-caking agents and sugar. Changes in these additives (or in the amounts of the additives) can change the “saltiness” of the salt.

It also depends on how much you sweat. On very hot days our brain makes us want more salt, which is a good thing.
