I was watching the movie “Gunfight at the O.K. Corral” and I was wondering if there were really fast gunfighters long ago just like the ones on television.

It was common enough for people to go around armed, and for some to not be at all reluctant to use their weapons. And while the stories out of the old west were exaggerated for East Coast audiences, there was a germ of truth in them. So, yes, there really were gunslingers long ago.
Could a guy shoot about six people with one revolver? Did that happen long ago?
Yes, just as there are now in every major city.
Yes, the gunfight at the OK Corral really did happen, just not at the corral. John Hardin, Bill Hickok, Billy the Kid and Tom Horn were all real people that made a living with their gun skills.
Of course, if you’d watched the far superior Tombstone which recounted the incident, you’d have seen a brief account of the rise of the “cowboys”, a ruthless gang of bandits who terrorised the wild west, culminating in the famed shoot-out at the corral.

@ucme . . . i’m your huckleberry
@Blondesjon Kilmer’s best role by far, although to be fair, his only other decent part was in Heat.
Kilmer was fantastic in “the Doors”, and don’t forget he played Elvis in “True Romance”
Those cowboy days are romanticized, but they did happen. Many of the outlaws you hear about were ruthless back alley cowards, who never had the showdowns in the middle of the street at high noon.
The movie “Unforgiven” is not a true story, but it is accurate to the time, and how legends were formed. It is one of my favorite movies, and I strongly recommend it.
@ucme clearly you’ve never seen Top Gun. Ice Man was the best. Haha.
@filmfann & @gorillapaws Hadn’t forgotten, didn’t include those performances because I personally don’t rate them. As for Top Gun, haha indeed.
