Do you love your vet more than you love your GP?

My former vet just spent ten minutes on the phone talking to me about a dog decision. I hadn’t seen them since my last dog died and he remembered me and the dog and the circumstances. At the end, he said, “Great talking to you.” Do you get that kind of service from your doctor?

My GP is really cool, and I like him better than my vet.
My vet tends to focus more on breeding than domestic animals, that’s where they make good money, but they were pretty great when I put my old boy down earlier this year.
Never have with a conventional doc, but my alternative docs do that. They actually take the time to get to know me, because that’s part of responsible treatment.
I like either, I love neither.
I like my GP but I love my vet. She treats my ‘kids’ like I know she treats her own. I have been going to her since 1979 (with my first ‘born’, Scratch.) She was the first person I showed my professional photo shoot of me and Scratch to. I know that if I needed to call her in the middle of the night, she wouldn’t send me to voice mail. I don’t think I can say that about my GP.
When I first read this I thought GP meant grandparent :P
My doctor is awesome though. I don’t have GP because I like to get seen when I’m actually sick, not 4 days later so I always just go to urgent care. I always see the same doctor there though and he’s always been super nice and friendly and has always called the next day to follow up and ask me how I was feeling.
Yes. Our vet is kind, straightforward, friendly and knowledgable. Our GP is kind and friendly, but not much at making a diagnosis beyond sinus infections and simple things. Everything else she refers out.
I do, and have often asked him whether I could be his patient.
As a side note, when I saw how gently my Prince was put to sleep, I wished we had euthanasia.
@Pooh54: MY vet said that as soon as it was legal, I would be at the top of the list.
No. Vet is OK.
GP is very people oriented. Also expensive. Does not belong to any third party “networks”.
When my old dog was dying, my vet sat on the floor and cried with me as I made the decision to put him down. A week later, a hand written sympathy card was in my mailbox with a note saying that he waived ⅔ of the charges from the last days of my dog’s life.
My GP shoves medications into my hands and tells me what to do with them. That is the extent of our relationship.
Needless to say, I love my vet. He is very passionate about his job and his patients.
I could see one of three vets at the practise I use. Two of them are great, the other I avoid because I think he is too focused on selling me the food or insurance that the clinic endorses and not enough on my animal. I see a differet doctor every time I go (I go about every six months) and so I have never been able to build much of a rapport with any of them.
My Rheumatologist is retiring at the end of September. I have been with him since 1992. I know I will cry but he deserves to retire and go fishing and just relax. He has been one of the most considerate drs I have ever had. He never, never makes me wait. He speaks to me like a person and not a disease. He also is a great listener. I hope his replacement has the same qualities that he possesses. Not many out there that I can say are like him. All I can say is, “if you don’t like retirement and change your mind, come back and I will be your patient again.” He really is of the same character as my vet. Thank heavens.
