What do you think colleges in America's percentage of STD's is?

I think back when I was in college if you include HPV as an STD the number was very high. I would bet 25–30%. If we don’t include HPV I wouldn’t be surprised if the number is maybe 10–15% of college students. Now girls are vaccinated for some of the HPV strains, so they are less likely to get that, but still I bet 15–20% of college students get an STD. There must be stats available. Plus, when I say HPV, I mean they actually come back with a bad pap smear. Many more girls are exposed and don’t know it during their college years.

All I know is that in the 30 minutes I’m at the campus health services for allergy shots each week, the receptionists usually get at least three calls about appointments to get tested for STDs or about test results, and that’s not factoring in any people sitting in the waiting room who are also getting tested. Although in theory not all of these people are actually infected, I think it’s safe to assume that the percentage is pretty high. At least the students at my school seem, as a whole, to be pretty proactive in getting educated and tested- much better than being infected and not knowing! I would be interested to know the actual average for college campuses, though.

@Zacklindsey Small world. I clicked on this question because Tech came to mind. Good ole Raider Rash. I’ve lived in Lubbock my whole life and when I say that people who aren’t from around here ask if I have raider rash. It’s really embarrassing when your hometown is known for spreading STDs. Anyways I’d say the numbers way the heck up there honesty….go red raiders…hides face in shame

I’ve always heard/read that 1 out of 4 people in the US have an STD. I don’t know how true that is, or how it correlates to colleges.
