My roommate said that I am too smart for my own good; What did she mean by that?
I get told that once a week from other roommates, for using words like prorogued and talking about going into municipal politics in a few months . I am on disability for a mental illness that, is treated and under control.
~ I am looking for work at fast food or politics. Both sound like fun jobs… to be on city consul and flip burgers part time. What do you think people mean by I am too smart for my own good?

I am completely confused by your question. Fast food or politics? Is this tongue in cheek? Are you being facetious?
They are apparently being sarcastic.
@syz yes Sorry I forgot the ~ edit I added the ~ in my question.
Who knows? What context was it said in? Had you just been showing off?
Quite often when people say that they mean that a person doesn’t know when to stop being a know-it-all because it makes other people feel inadequate.
@MIlo here; I know almost everything but still had to look up the definition of “prorogued. I thought it was a potato and cheese dumpling.
Politics IS pretty much fast food. So I predict great things for you…
I think I know almost as much about some words as @gailcalled, but nowhere near as much as Milo, of course, since he’s at least bilingual. I had to look up prorogued, too, and then prorogue as a consequence of that. But otherwise I agree with @YARNLADY. If you’re just using big words, uncommon words, and contexts (such as this question) to show people what a big brain you have, then you’re working against yourself in terms of likability, if you’re interested in that.
Great question, @tenureandandlemons A smart person can show their brilliance and pay a king’s ransom for it. A wise person can be brilliant and use that brilliance to collect a king’s ransom.
That said, “You’re too smart for your own good.” often means “You’re smarter than me, and I don’t like knowing that.” Develop the wisdom to learn what they mean. It will serve you well whether you sell burgers or political platforms.
